Job description

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a QC Engineer (Mechanical Piping/Utilities) opportunity to support the Savannah River Site.
Work Location: Aiken, SC
QC Engineer (Mechanical Piping/Utilities)-
The QC Engineer (Mechanical Piping/Utilities) will support a multi-year construction project involving significant civil and mechanical construction, including grading, storm drainage, demolition, earthwork, ductbanks, service water, process piping, and associated site infrastructure.
Duties:
  • Perform field QC inspections for process piping, firewater, domestic/service water, and mechanical utility systems.
  • Verify piping construction complies with approved drawings, specifications, procedures, codes, QMS, NQA-1, DOE Order 414.1D, and project requirements.
  • Inspect piping materials, fit-up, routing, supports, valves, fittings, flanges, bolted connections, and mechanical components.
  • Verify material identification, approvals, storage, handling, and traceability.
  • Perform/witness piping fit-up and welding inspections per approved procedures and acceptance criteria.
  • Verify WPS, PQR, and welder qualifications before welding.
  • Coordinate/witness required NDE and review documentation for compliance.
  • Inspect piping installation, including bedding, elevations, alignment, joints, coatings, backfill, and testing readiness.
  • Witness hydrostatic, pneumatic, leakage, flushing, cleanliness, and other required tests.
  • Review drawings, specifications, work packages, ITPs, test packages, and quality records for inspection requirements.
  • Verify hold/witness points and required inspections are completed before work proceeds or is concealed.
  • Identify and document nonconforming work, CAQs, and quality issues; support NCRs and corrective actions.
  • Maintain complete, traceable inspection, welding, NDE, testing, and turnover records.
  • Support system walkdowns, punch lists, turnover inspections, surveillances, and audits.
  • Escalate significant quality concerns and SCAQs per project procedures.

Skills/Experience:
  • Minimum five (5) years of quality control, piping inspection, welding inspection, or related experience supporting industrial construction.
  • Experience with industrial piping, process piping, utility piping, firewater, service water, or similar mechanical construction.
  • Working knowledge of piping fabrication, installation, welding, materials, supports, pressure testing, and mechanical construction inspection.
  • Functional understanding of ASME NQA-1 quality requirements and DOE Order 414.1D.
  • Knowledge of applicable piping codes, standards, welding requirements, and project specifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret piping drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, specifications, procedures, weld maps, and inspection/test requirements.
  • Experience with WPS/PQR/WPQ documentation, welding inspection, NDE documentation, pressure testing, and piping turnover records.
  • Experience with ITPs, hold/witness points, NCRs, corrective actions, and auditable quality records.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification strongly preferred for welding inspection assignments.
  • Must be able to perform field inspections in an active construction environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quality, or related technical field.
  • Applicable ASNT Level II/III certification preferred for assignments involving NDE.
  • Additional piping, mechanical, coatings, bolting, or inspection certifications are preferred as applicable to the assignment.
  • Previous DOE, nuclear, or other highly regulated industrial construction experience.
  • Experience with underground piping and associated site infrastructure.
