Position Summary

As a Quality Engineer in our Quality Lab Services group, you are responsible for the ongoing development, improvement and streamlining of the quality management system that ensures the secure documents (bank notes, passports, driver’s license and identification cards, etc.) that CBN manufactures are of the highest quality and remain trusted documents for governments and their citizens.

Responsibilities

Quality Planning and Implementation

  • Develop new and understand current product specifications, including risks associated with different production steps.
  • Implement quality control plans to ensure product compliance to customer standards.
  • Work closely with R&D and Manufacturing Engineering teams to launch new products into production, defining new quality standards where applicable.

Auditing and Monitoring

  • Audit print, finishing, and inspection process centers for conformance to product specifications. Consult with product management and business unit teams, as required, to ensure customer requirements are being met.
  • Employ statistical quality control methodologies to monitor and maintain the quality of products and identify any quality problems.
  • Analyze data and identify trends to improve product quality and reduce wastes.

Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with ME and Operations to identify and troubleshoot production-related quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Track non-conformances, recommend and help implement corrective actions to reduce/eliminate reoccurrences and monitor and analyze the effectiveness of corrective actions.

Miscellaneous Duties

  • Interface with external customers and/or suppliers
  • Define required QC lab testing to validate incoming product quality and durability performance
  • Stay updated on industry standards and advancements in print technology.
Qualifications

Education and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, print technology or an equivalent combination of education and additional relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of the following
    • Strong understanding of quality principles and methodologies.
    • Quality management systems
    • ISO 9001 standards
    • Continuous improvement processes and tools (e.g. KT, Six Sigma, FMEA, 8D, 5 Whys, Kaizen, PDCA, etc.)
    • Office 365 and statistical/business intelligence software

Experience

  • 4-7 years in quality control related position
  • Experience in a production environment is an asset
  • LEAN Six Sigma experience is an asset
