About the job

Reporting to the General Manager, the QC Manager will be responsible for ensuring the product quality of asphalt materials being produced from our asphalt plants & road construction projects, as well as managing the team of Asphalt Lab Technicians.


Responsibilities


  • Participate, supervise and assist in the development, introduction and training of new value-added products, addressing customer complaints, and conducting root cause investigations.
  • Supervise, schedule and co-ordinate the activities of QC staff.
  • Responsible for the administration of the laboratory and equipment including supporting audit readiness (internal and external) and maintaining equipment calibrations.
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining QMS, SOPs, and document control.
  • Monitoring compliance of paving and construction work with project specifications.
  • Aid in troubleshooting of asphalt and construction quality problems, determine causes and implement corrective actions and monitor success.
  • Make informed decisions/communicate decisions regarding product and project quality.
  • Liaises with customers to ensure product satisfaction and handling customer complaints and assisting with third-party
  • Review, analyze and compare test results with specifications, tolerances, and targets to ensure product quality. Report test results and any deviations or trends immediately to the appropriate department, and follow-up to ensure the appropriate actions have taken place.
  • Develop and optimize asphalt mix designs for quality and costs.
  • Initiate asphalt plant adjustments to ensure product quality.
  • Interview, hire, train & coach QC team members.
  • Monthly Activity Report.


Skills And Physical Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • The ability to read and interpret manufacturing or engineering drawings.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Proven experience managing technicians or teams, driving corrective actions, and enforcing safety/industry standards.
  • Strong analytical skills to determine the root cause of defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Effective verbal and written skills for reporting to senior management and communicating with suppliers.
  • Deep understanding of construction contracts, specifications, and industry best practice
  • Position may require working nights, weekends, or overtime based on production schedules.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs and work in a plant or construction environment with varying weather conditions.


Qualifications

  • Significant hands-on experience in construction quality control. 5+ years of experience in a similar role is required.
  • A post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Experience in the road construction industry is required.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must have a valid Ontario G driver’s license and access to a vehicle, to conduct site visits as required.
  • CCIL (Hot Mix Asphalt) certification is required.
  • ACI (American Concrete Institute) certification is desired, or be obtained within the first year of hire.


Compensation $110,000-$130,000/year
