Job description

Overview
Utilize medical laboratory procedures to accurately perform tests/diagnostics procedures on clinical specimens in all departments of the laboratory. Assist the Laboratory Manager in supervising, coordinating and evaluating the system of the laboratory operations. Oversee a wide variety of administrative, fiscal and technical activities to ensure a proper operation of the clinical laboratory. Consult with the Laboratory Manager and Director regarding compliance with regulations, standards and proficiencies of laboratory test methods.
Responsibilities
Maintains, manages and supervises the CLS and Lab assistants' schedules and coverages.
Supervises &/or performs & documents the Quality Control, calibration, calibration verification, comparison testing, & linearity studies for all testing requiring all or some of the preceding which are performed in the lab.
Monitors and manages all Maintenance and Quality Control (Daily, Weekly, monthly ) performance of all instruments and equipment and ensure they in compliance with the applicable regulations and guidelines.
Manages all aspects of the lab proficiency programs to include test assignments to the CLS, mentoring test completions deadlines and reports.
Must be knowledgeable in all areas/departments of the laboratory to include point of care and can coordinate and operate the laboratory independently without supervision.
Monitors and manages order supplies ,preforms daily inventories and manage waste that may result into increase in designated budget for the laboratory.
Must be able to solve clients/patients/departmental related problems and implements improvements that may enhance customer service and satisfaction.
Supervises and evaluates the job performance, training and competencies of Clinical Lab Scientists and Laboratory Assistants. Participates in hiring process and training of new staff.
Assists in making informed decision on acquisition of new instruments based on need, frequency of use and available revenue and profit. Participates in evaluating new test methods prior to implementation.
Attends management meetings as needed. Assists in promoting and marketing of laboratory services as needed.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree (B.A/B.S) in related field or equivalent.
Experience: At least 2-3 years previous experience with demonstrated knowledge of acceptable clinical laboratory practice and procedure. Familiarity with California law in regards to medical technology practices.
Licenses & Certifications: Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License
Required Skills & Knowledge: Strong Medical Laboratory Experience. Advance Lab Management skills to include strong laboratory testing/interpretation, instrument maintenance, quality control, staff training and proficiency. Excellent Written and Analytical Skills. Strong Customer Service to include organizational and problem solving skills and ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.

Actual compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
