Summary

WesTech is in need of a Quality Control Engineer who will support the quality control program for the fabrication of water and wastewater treatment equipment. Responsibilities include supporting or leading technical inspections, reviewing inspection documentation, performing root cause analysis on failures, maintaining quality and technical documentation, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders on quality matters. Employees who succeed in this role are typically detail-oriented, organized, and have strong written and verbal communication skills. Candidates for this position may be required to pass pre-employment and periodic screenings, including background checks, drug and alcohol tests, or other necessary assessments.

Some of the work you will do: 

Organizational Acumen

  • Develop organizational knowledge and how the quality control program fits into the overall organizational structure.
  • Develop product knowledge as it relates to quality control.

Technical Inspection Support

  • Develop understanding of inspection process and documentation completed by the Quality Control Inspector, assist with review and follow-up as requested.
  • Support inspections related to warranty work or troubleshooting, as requested.
  • Support root cause analysis on failures, as directed.
  • Assist with identification and monitoring of self-inspecting shops.

Technical Documentation Support

  • Develop an understanding of specification documentation and associated quality control requirements on a project-specific basis.
  • Develop an understanding of Inspection & Test Plan (ITP) information, especially as it relates to codes reference information.
  • Develop an understanding of the verification documentation related to the Inspection & Test Plan (ITP).
  • Develop an understanding of the WesTech Workmanship Standard document.
  • Develop an understanding of inspection work instructions and documentation.
  • Develop understanding of welding documentation associated with certification and qualification of vendors.

Communication

  • Clearly and professionally communicate inspection progress, activities, and results to both internal and external customers.

Coordination & Support

  • Attend scheduling meetings with vendors as required.
  • Coordinate with other internal functions as needed, including Applications Engineers, Project Management, Design, Engineering, Supply Chain, Aftermarket, Field Service, Product Management and others, as requested.
  • Develop an understanding of the vendor QC audit process.
  • Document and communicate recurring product issues or improvement opportunities to Product Managers to support continuous improvement.

Safety

  • Identify and account for safety requirements, site-specific certifications, and PPE needs by reviewing specifications and relevant materials prior to fabrication or site visits.

Here are the skills that you need: 

  • Experience: Generally 0 to 2 years of related inspection or quality engineering experience.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or manufacturing (or equivalent).
  • Certifications: None required at this level.
  • Develop a working knowledge of AWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.6, and ASME Section IX, reading and analyzing Welding Procedure Specifications, Procedure Qualification Records, Welder Certifications and Weld Maps.
  • Possess excellent computer skills: Microsoft Suite (Word, Teams, SharePoint), PDF documents, and other Windows applications.
  • General understanding of equipment fabrication, mechanical systems, and related processes, including familiarity with chemistry, metallurgy, or water treatment applications.
  • Detail-oriented and organized self-starter with a commitment to project completion and a creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Good time management skills. Consistently follows through on assignments with minimal reminders.
  • Collaborative and proactive team player with the ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing conditions, and persevere through challenges.
  • Strong math skills including trigonometry and geometry.
  • Good professional communication skills (verbal, written, and active listening) with full English language proficiency.
  • Ability to learn from participation in customer- and vendor-facing technical discussions and negotiations.
  • Ability to travel to domestic and international supplier sites (up to 50%).

Here are the skills and qualifications that will set you apart: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or manufacturing (or equivalent).
  • Certifications:
    • Active AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification.
    • Active AMPP CIP Level 1 Certification (or higher).
  • Hands-on experience in fabrication, welding and inspection.
  • Understanding or experience in Non-Destructive Testing (MT, PT, RT, UT, etc.)
  • Understanding or experience in plastic pipe fabrication / fusion / welding.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform computer-based work for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform inspection-based work (standing, climbing ladders / scaffolding, confined spaces, etc.) for extended periods.
  • Some lifting may be involved (up to 50 lb.)
  • May be required to be clean-shaved for proper fitting of respiratory equipment.
