Job Description Our client is a highly respected engineering firm seeking a skilled Structural Engineer to join their dedicated structural forensics and design team in Calgary. This multi-faceted role blends rigorous technical design with active hands-on field investigations. This is a remote position; the incumbent must work and reside in Calgary/surrounding area.

You will be responsible for leading field forensic investigations of structurally compromised or damaged buildings, translating site data into detailed engineering repair plans, and performing preliminary designs for new construction and renovation projects. This position offers a unique balance of independent project management, client-facing communication, and technical leadership. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Forensic Field Investigations & Site Review Site Forensic Analysis: Conduct comprehensive on-site examinations of structurally damaged buildings and infrastructure to diagnose failures.

Evidence Documentation: Capture thorough field notes, meticulous sketches, measurements, and photographic evidence during site visits. Construction Field Reviews: Perform general engineering field reviews during construction and design phases to ensure strict compliance with specifications and design plans. Quality Assurance: Execute field dimensional checks and quality control reviews to confirm construction aligns with approved engineering drawings, building permits, and municipal standards.

Technical Design & Report Writing Engineering Reports: Author comprehensive technical reports and detailed scopes of repair for damaged residential and commercial structures. Structural Design: Perform rigorous structural analysis calculations and design structural members, components, and specialized connection details. Permit & Repair Drawings: Interpret forensic site notes to develop and draft official engineering repair plans, construction drawings, and documentation required for municipal building permit issuance.

Code Compliance: Review all relevant standards and building codes to verify the structural adequacy of all designs and engineering specifications. Project Management & Client Communication Financial Oversight: Plan and prepare project budgets, monitoring allocations and drafting formal budget proposals for clients. Timeline Management: Oversee project design deliverables, ensuring schedules are met and client-specific requirements are satisfied.

Stakeholder Liaison: Coordinate closely with contractors, architects, design professionals, municipal examiners, and building inspectors to facilitate project approvals. Client Advisory: Communicate directly with clients regarding project requirements, technical updates, and budget statuses. Quality Control & Growth: Participate in internal peer reviews of colleagues' reports and drawings and occasionally support firm growth through client presentations and marketing initiatives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an accredited four-year post-secondary Civil or Structural Engineering program. Current P.Eng. registration with APEGA in good standing

Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in structural engineering design, forensic investigation, and construction review. Deep working knowledge of the national building code part 9 and relevant CSA standards (specifically CSA O86 Engineering Design in Wood). Possession of a valid Class 5 driver's license and willingness to travel for site investigations.

Engineering & Drafting Software: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and/or REVIT. Working knowledge of WoodWorks and Bluebeam is highly preferred. Project Tools: Strong experience with project management platforms (Monday.com, Ajera) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams)
