About the Role: GHY International has an exciting opportunity for the role of Trade Specialist, working out of our Head Office in Winnipeg, MB. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in customs brokerage and classification of goods, as well as experience in client care and team leadership. They will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment to ensure quality and efficiency. The position will consist primarily of accurately classifying goods according to the Customs Tariff and performing post-release audit for large volumes of shipments. This Trade Specialist must have a full comprehension of the release and post-release process and mentor other team members through this procedure. The individual must have a thorough understanding of the client's business, and be able to competently deal with clients, vendors, and customs in a professional manner.


What You'll Do:

  • Thorough comprehension of Pre-release and Post-release processes
  • Database Maintenance
    • Classifying goods according to the Customs Tariff, using explanatory and legal notes and other resources to determine correct HS code
    • Research and apply PGA data
    • FTA management and application
  • Audit files and prepare/send them for final accounting
  • Monitor and action 4th and 5th day entries
  • Log and communicate errors to release associates within the team
  • Supervise and mentor other team members
  • Day to Day client care:
    • Problem resolution and billing inquiries
    • Assist clients requesting tariff and duty rates
    • Post release document/information pursuit
  • Accompany and support Managers on client meetings (in person or remote)
  • Onboarding of new clients; Account set up
  • SOP creation/maintenance
  • Assist in Penalty/Storage/Demurrage Analysis and Write Offs
  • Processing releases for highway/rail/air/ocean shipments as needed
  • Facilitating delivery notifications where applicable
  • Ensuring elogs and audit trails support actions
  • Preparing PGA forms
  • Submit RMD corrections on released shipments
  • ETA, VI entries and E29B's
  • Post-release TPL permits
  • Monitoring Alerts and answer QCs within threshold
  • Other duties as assigned


      Who You Are:

      • Advanced knowledge of tariff classification and explanatory notes, with the ability to accurately apply this knowledge
      • Strong understanding of Quality Control processes and the ability to identify and resolve issues that arise
      • In-depth knowledge of Canadian customs rules and regulations
      • Ability to recognize PGAs and their impacts on the release process
      • Exceptional ability to multitask and manage time effectively to work within tight deadlines and handle a large volume of work
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills in a professional setting
      • Proficiency in basic mathematics including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as calculation of percentages, ratios, and averages
      • Proficiency in keyboarding at a minimum speed of 55 WPM
      • Exceptional attention to detail with a focus on accuracy in all work completed
      • Strong organizational skills to manage workload effectively
      • Excellent problem-solving skills to address issues as they arise
      • Ability to self-motivate and work independently to complete tasks efficiently
      • Strong team-building skills to mentor and support team members
      • Proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel
      • Experience with ITMR4 would be considered an asset
