Job Description

The Quality Control Technician ensures that all food products meet strict quality, safety, and regulatory standards through thorough inspections, testing, and documentation. This role conducts pre-operational checks, monitors production processes, and performs detailed quality assessments to identify and prevent issues before products reach customers. The technician supports continuous improvement by maintaining accurate records, collaborating with production teams, and upholding best practices in food safety and quality assurance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-operational inspections to verify that equipment, production lines, and work areas meet established quality and safety standards before production begins.
  • Conduct X-ray testing to identify and remove foreign materials or contaminants from products.
  • Operate and monitor metal detectors to ensure products are free from metal contamination and document any findings.
  • Carry out routine quality checks on products throughout the production process to verify consistency and adherence to specifications.
  • Complete and maintain accurate quality documentation, including inspection records, test results, and corrective actions.
  • Inspect packaging, including boxes and containers, to confirm dimensional accuracy and structural integrity.
  • Verify that ingredient codes on labels match the actual ingredients used in production to ensure correct labeling and traceability.
  • Perform seal checks on packaging to confirm proper closure and product protection.
  • Review and validate product specifications, including best-by dates and other critical label information, for accuracy and compliance.
  • Inspect products and packaging for foreign materials and immediately escalate issues when detected.
  • Hold production lines when necessary to address quality or safety concerns and prevent nonconforming products from continuing through the process.
  • Participate in internal inspections and audits to support compliance with quality and food safety standards.
  • Apply principles of good manufacturing practices (GMP) and quality assurance in daily activities.
  • Collaborate with production, supervision, and leadership to communicate quality issues and support timely resolutions.
  • Manage time effectively to complete scheduled checks, tests, and documentation within required timeframes.
  • Support continuous improvement by sharing observations, suggesting process enhancements, and contributing to a culture of transparency and accountability.
  • Maintain a high level of integrity and honesty when reporting findings, documenting issues, and making decisions related to product quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, Associate degree, or equivalent quality experience working in food manufacturing.
  • Understanding of HACCP principles and critical control points is a strong plus.
  • Interest in obtaining PCQI and HACCP certifications, which may be supported through this role.
  • Experience working with inspection, audit, and documentation processes in a regulated environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.
