Job description

RRC is seeking a talented Electrical Designer II – Substation P&C to help us build the future of U.S. energy production from our Austin/Round Rock Texas office. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the design and development of high-voltage substation Protection & Control systems for AIS and GIS substations
  • Prepare and revise P&C design drawings including, single-line and three-line diagrams, DC schematics, wiring diagrams and communication schematics
  • Assist engineers with the preparation of engineering design packages and deliverables
  • Ensure drawings and deliverables comply with applicable industry standards including IEEE, NERC, NEC, and NESC, as well as client-specific requirements
  • Perform redlines, updates, and revisions to existing drawings based on engineering markups
  • Support project teams by contributing to schedules, deliverables, and coordination efforts
  • Assist in the development and organization of relay and control panel documentation
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness of design packages
  • Coordinate with internal teams including engineering, SCADA, and field services to ensure cohesive project execution
  • Provide support for field activities such as site visits, FATs, and as-built documentation as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Design, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in substation design, particularly in Protection & Control systems
  • Experience developing P&C drawings for high-voltage substations
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design software
  • Familiarity with substation components including relays, batteries, chargers, control panels, and SCADA interfaces
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards including IEEE, NEC, and NESC
  • Ability to interpret and apply engineering markups and redlines into finalized design drawings
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality deliverables
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
