Job Summary

Coordinate and execute environmental quality monitoring and infection prevention initiatives within Environmental Services. Utilize data-driven methodologies, including the LIV Process, and Vericlean to assess cleaning efficacy, identify contamination risks, and support hospital-wide efforts to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), with a focus on C. difficile. Collaborate with Environmental Services, Infection Prevention, and clinical teams to enhance cleaning standards, improve staff education, and ensure a safe and sanitary patient care environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental quality audits using fluorescence-based detection systems (e.g., LIV Process) to identify residual contamination on high-touch surfaces.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data on cleaning efficacy; generate reports to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with Infection Prevention and Environmental Services leadership to support initiatives aimed at reducing HAIs, including C. difficile transmission.
  • Perform routine and targeted inspections of patient rooms, procedural areas, and high-risk environments to ensure adherence to established cleaning protocols.
  • Provide real-time feedback and education to Environmental Services staff based on audit findings to reinforce best practices and improve performance.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of training programs focused on infection control, cleaning standards, and use of new technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (clinical staff, nursing, operations leadership) to communicate findings and promote accountability in maintaining environmental cleanliness.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of audit results, interventions, and follow-up activities for internal tracking and potential research/publication purposes.
  • Support pilot programs and research initiatives related to environmental hygiene and infection prevention.
  • Monitor compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and safety protocols related to environmental services.  
  • Assist in continuous quality improvement efforts by recommending process enhancements based on data insights.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a health science, public health, biology, or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and relevant healthcare experience.
  • Prior experience in Environmental Services, infection prevention, research, or quality improvement strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, safety guidelines, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to write clear reports and communicate findings effectively to both frontline staff and leadership.
  • Ability to present information in small group or training settings.
  • Ability to perform basic statistical analysis and interpret data trends.
  • Proficiency in working with data sets, percentages, and performance metrics.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to identify contamination risks, evaluate cleaning processes, and recommend improvements.
  • Ability to manage multiple variables in dynamic healthcare environments.
  • Familiarity with infection prevention practices and environmental cleaning standards in healthcare settings.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, excel) preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • Strong attention to detail and observational skills.
