What does a Quality Assurance Engineer Manager do?

A Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer Manager oversees the quality assurance process within a company to ensure that products or services meet specific standards of quality. They lead and mentor QA teams, develop testing strategies, and coordinate with other departments to identify and resolve quality issues. Their responsibilities also include setting quality goals, implementing best practices, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. By managing the quality assurance process, they help prevent defects, improve customer satisfaction, and support the overall success of the organization.

To thrive as a Quality Assurance Engineer Manager, you need a strong background in software testing methodologies, quality standards, and team leadership, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with automation tools (like Selenium or JIRA), test management systems, and relevant certifications (such as ISTQB) is essential. Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills help foster collaboration and drive continuous improvement. These competencies ensure the delivery of high-quality products, efficient processes, and effective team performance.

How does a Quality Assurance Engineer Manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure product quality?

A Quality Assurance Engineer Manager works closely with development, product management, and operations teams to establish clear quality standards and testing protocols. They often facilitate regular meetings to align on project goals, address potential quality risks, and coordinate testing timelines. Effective QA managers foster open communication, ensuring that feedback from QA is integrated into the development process early and often. Job description

SwingDev-a hippo company is the Polish branch of a fast-growing InsurTech product company - Hippo Insurance. We're here to make home insurance smarter and more proactive, using tech to bring fresh solutions. We also create digital products that support our customers, always focusing on what really makes an impact.

Putting a lot of effort into hiring top-tier professionals is a proof that we care a lot about tech experience, the attitude, human approach, and what we could call "culture fit".

"SwingDev is all about people" - yes, it may sound a bit cliche. But whether we're writing code or just hanging out, we know that people are at the heart of everything we do. We like to have a good time and keep things light, even when we're tackling big projects. We could brag about what's making us special, but we've boiled it down to two key ingredients: mature, companionable people who, rather than compete, prefer to inspire and have each other's backs; a culture of trust, empathy, and positivity that keeps us together, lets us interact as teammates and friends, and truly enjoy the ride.

So if you're a QA Engineer looking to shake things up and have a good time while you're at it, you've come to the right place.
What will you do?
  • You'll deeply collaborate with Engineering teams. This includes actively participating in the development of new features and initiatives, from initial requirement analysis and test planning to execution, regression testing, and final release sign-off.
  • You'll partner closely with Product Managers. This means you will be responsible for prioritizing testing efforts, clarifying requirements, challenging assumptions from a quality perspective, coordinating Business Acceptance Testing, and advocating for the needs of our customers.
  • You'll work closely with SDETs to expand and maintain our automated test coverage for new features and regression testing. You'll also collaborate with other manual QA engineers on cross-team and cross-BU projects.
  • You'll proactively identify and mitigate potential risks, ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and reliability.
We might be a match if you...
  • Have 3+ years of QA experience, with a focus on manual testing (Black Box, White Box, and Grey Box).
  • Have a good knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Have a good understanding of testing integration, functional, end-to-end, and API tests (Postman).
  • Have experience with test case design, execution, and reporting for complex systems (front-end and back-end).
  • Have an ability to create test cases and collections that exercise the requirements and business rules in colaboration with PMs.
  • Worked with test case management tools (preferably XRay).
  • Have good analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Are an independent problem solver but also a collaborative team player.
  • Have a great command of English (written & spoken) and at least basic of Polish.
  • Are available in the afternoons - we prioritize everyone's personal time and work-life fit, but since we work in multinational teams, occasional evening meetings may be necessary to ensure smooth communication across time zones.

You will get extra points for:
  • Experience working in a product company, ideally a startup/scale-up.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and their impact on the QA process.
  • Experience with Jira and agile testing methodologies.
  • Experience with Salesforce or any other CRM.
Recruitment process:
  • Send us your CV - it's the best way for us to get to know you.
  • Record a short, 20-minutes long one-way interview (async, on your schedule).
  • Meet with one of our Recruiters.
  • Join for a Technical Interview.
  • Have a conversation with your potential Engineering Manager.
  • Meet on the final stage with Marcin and Alicja.
  • and... welcome aboard!
