Overview:
Fair Oaks Performing Arts Center is a vibrant cultural hub dedicated to fostering creativity, innovation, and community engagement through diverse performing arts experiences, offering theater productions, concerts, dance recitals, comedy shows, speaker series, community rentals, and special events. We are seeking an experienced Assistant Technical Supervisor to support all technical aspects of productions, events, performances, and facility rentals. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, leadership ability, and a passion for performing arts and community engagement.
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Technical/Facility Supervisor, the Assistant Technical Supervisor assists in planning, organizing, and providing technical support for theatre and production activities at District sites, primarily the Fair Oaks Performing Arts Center. The position serves as the venue's primary A2 and backup A1 while assisting with facility operations, rentals, maintenance, and technical staffing.
Hours:
Varies depending on production and event schedules; part-time, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are typical for this classification. However, incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties to meet evolving needs:

• Serve as second-in-command to the Technical/Facility Supervisor and assume assigned responsibilities during absences.
• Serve as the venue's primary Audio Technician (A2) and backup Audio Engineer (A1) for productions, rentals, rehearsals, and events.
• Plan, organize, and provide technical support for theater and production activities including audio, video, lighting, projection, and staging systems.
• Coordinate and implement stage production activities including load-ins, rehearsals, performances, strikes, and equipment changeovers.
• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair audio-visual, lighting, projection, communications, and theatrical equipment.
• Assist with inventory management, preventative maintenance schedules, equipment tracking, and technical documentation.
• Train, mentor, schedule, and provide direction to hourly facility technicians and stage crews.
• Coordinate technical requirements with clients, renters, artists, visiting engineers, and production personnel.
• Assist with facility tours, production meetings, technical advances, and event planning.
• Perform safety inspections and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
• Support lighting, rigging, projection, scenic, and stagecraft operations as needed.
• Prepare production reports and post-event evaluations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

• Knowledge of audio/visual systems, digital audio consoles, theatrical lighting systems, stagecraft, and rigging practices.
• Understanding of basic electrical theory and health and safety regulations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and production software such as QLab and networked audio systems.
• Ability to lead, train, and direct hourly technicians and stage crews.
• Strong organizational, technical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and safely move equipment up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
• Comfortable working with ladders, heights, and basic tools and equipment.

Knowledge, Skill and Experience:
Knowledge of audio/visual systems, digital audio consoles, theatrical lighting systems, stagecraft, rigging practices, basic electrical theory, health and safety regulations, Microsoft Office, and production software such as QLab and networked audio systems.

• Minimum Education required: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Technical theatre, audio engineering, entertainment technology, or related education preferred.
• Minimum Experience required: Three years of progressively responsible experience in live entertainment production, including operation of professional audio systems and theatrical equipment.
• Other requirements: Background check, reliable transportation, and ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Dexterity to operate technical equipment; ability to climb ladders, work at heights, stand for extended periods, and regularly lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to safely move equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor and outdoor environments. Theater and event venue settings. Evening, weekend, holiday, and irregular schedules required based on operational needs. Exposure to theatrical effects, noise, heights, dust, and varying weather conditions.

SELECTION PROCEDURES:
Initial Selection Review:
The Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District reviews all initial application materials to identify qualified applicants.
