How much do qc welding engineer jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 14, 2026, the average hourly pay for qc welding engineer in the United States is $41.61, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $34.38 and $47.36 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a QC Welding Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as a QC Welding Engineer, you need a strong background in welding engineering principles, quality control processes, and relevant industry standards, often backed by a degree in engineering and certifications like CSWIP or AWS-CWI. Familiarity with inspection tools, non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, and quality management systems is crucial. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure welding integrity, compliance with safety standards, and the delivery of reliable, high-quality projects.

What are QC Welding Engineers?

QC Welding Engineers are professionals responsible for ensuring the quality and integrity of welded structures and components in various industries, such as construction, manufacturing, and oil & gas. They develop and implement welding procedures, inspect welds, and verify that welding processes comply with industry standards and project specifications. Their role often involves coordinating with other engineering teams, overseeing welders, and maintaining detailed documentation for quality assurance and safety compliance. QC Welding Engineers play a crucial part in preventing defects, ensuring product reliability, and meeting regulatory requirements.

What is the difference between Qc Welding Engineer vs Qc Inspector?

AspectQc Welding EngineerQc Inspector
CertificationsWelding certifications (e.g., AWS, ASME)Inspection certifications (e.g., API, ASNT)
Work EnvironmentDesign, review, and oversee welding processes in manufacturing or constructionInspect and verify weld quality on-site or in labs
ResponsibilitiesDevelop welding procedures, ensure compliance, troubleshoot welding issuesPerform visual and non-destructive testing, document inspection results

While both roles focus on welding quality, the Qc Welding Engineer is involved in process development and ensuring welding standards are met during production. The Qc Inspector primarily conducts inspections and tests to verify weld quality on completed work. Both roles are essential in maintaining welding integrity but differ in scope and responsibilities.

What are some common challenges faced by a QC Welding Engineer during project execution?

QC Welding Engineers often encounter challenges such as ensuring strict adherence to welding codes and standards, managing documentation for quality compliance, and addressing unexpected welding defects or non-conformities on-site. They must also coordinate effectively with welders, inspectors, and project managers to resolve issues promptly and minimize project delays. Staying updated with evolving industry standards and continuously improving inspection processes are key to overcoming these challenges and delivering high-quality results.
