Job description

Overview:

The Quality Technician is responsible for supporting quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) activities on utility-scale solar PV and BESS construction projects. This position performs field inspections, verifies installations against approved drawings and specifications, documents quality findings, and works closely with project teams to identify and correct deficiencies.

The Quality Technician will work directly with Quality, Field Operations, Engineering, Safety, and Project Management to help ensure construction activities meet project requirements, manufacturer specifications, applicable codes and standards, and company quality expectations.

This is a hands-on field position requiring strong attention to detail, the ability to read construction drawings and specifications, and a working knowledge of solar tracker and racking systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the Company’s QA/QC program for solar construction projects, including PV, BESS, and associated civil, electrical, and structural scopes
  • Follow established quality procedures, inspection checklists, and documentation requirements
  • Ensure quality processes are aligned with contractual obligations, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct regular site audits and inspections to verify work complies with approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards
  • Identify and document non-conforming work, issue NCRs, and track corrective and preventive actions through resolution
  • Support field teams with constructability reviews, quality planning, and best-practice guidance
  • Verify proper installation of major components including modules, racking, trackers, foundations, cabling, inverters, and BESS systems
  • Maintain accurate quality records, inspection reports, test results, and turnover documentation
  • Ensure proper document control by verifying that current drawings, specifications, and revisions are being utilized in the field.
  • Utilize Procure to document inspections, observations, deficiencies, corrective actions, photographs, and other project quality records
  • Support project closeout and handover by verifying quality documentation completeness and accuracy
  • Assist with identifying quality trends, root causes of defects, and rework drivers to implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • Coordinate with Engineering and field leadership to resolve design issues, RFIs, and field deviations
  • Partner with Safety to ensure quality and safety standards are aligned and reinforced
  • Work with Project Management to track quality metrics, schedule impacts, and cost implications
  • Perform additional quality-related duties and inspections as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical training, trade experience, or an associate or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Electrical Technology, Quality, or a related field is preferred but not required
  • 2+ years of construction, solar, electrical, mechanical, or QA/QC experience preferred.
  • Utility-scale solar PV or BESS construction experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working with or inspecting solar tracker/racking systems such as ATI, FlexRack, and Nextracker is strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and inspection processes
  • Experience identifying, documenting, and resolving non-conforming work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
