Weld Inspector (UHP / Orbital Welding) - Semiconductor Manufacturing

Location: Taylor, TX (Austin Area)
Job Type: Full-Time, Onsite
Schedule: Day Shift, Monday - Friday (OT as needed)

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Weld Inspector to support semiconductor manufacturing operations in a high-performance, cleanroom-driven environment. This role is responsible for inspection, testing, and quality validation of ultra-high purity (UHP) process systems prior to production.

This is a hands-on opportunity to work with advanced semiconductor infrastructure, including gas, chemicals, and utility systems, while receiving structured training and long-term career development.

About the Role

Semiconductor manufacturing requires strict certification, validation, and quality control prior to production. This role is critical in ensuring all systems meet engineering specifications, safety standards, and operational readiness before chip manufacturing begins.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect orbital (automatic GTAW) welds on 316L stainless steel piping to required specifications
  • Document all accepted and rejected welds with accuracy and compliance
  • Communicate inspection findings with welders and coordinate rework and re-inspections
  • Perform quality surveillance to ensure adherence to UHP welding procedures
  • Conduct system walkdowns of gas, chemicals, and utility lines to verify:
    • Proper support and hangers
    • Correct routing and labeling
    • Overall workmanship and compliance standards
  • Witness and verify pressure testing of UHP and facility systems
  • Maintain clear communication with engineers, supervisors, and field personnel
  • Work safely at heights using ladders, harnesses, and fall protection equipment

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification required
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Preferred Experience

  • Welding inspection, weld quality, or fabrication experience
  • Experience in semiconductor, construction, manufacturing, or industrial environments
  • Exposure to orbital welding (GTAW), stainless steel piping, or UHP systems
  • Familiarity with cleanrooms or regulated environments

Physical Requirements

  • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Walk several miles per shift across large facilities
  • Climb ladders and work at elevated heights
  • Work in physically active, fast-paced environments

Work Environment

  • Onsite at a semiconductor manufacturing facility
  • Exposure to both sub-fab and cleanroom environments
  • Cleanroom PPE may include:
    • Full smock, gloves, mask, head covering, and booties
  • Construction-style environment with multiple trades onsite
  • Required PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, and fall protection
  • Must maintain awareness of gas, chemicals, and mechanical systems
