Job Description

The Product Quality Engineer works under the accordance of Stäubli Corporation’s Quality Management System and ensure all aspects are respected within the purview for the role responsibilities. This position will carry out quality assessments and product assurance on industrialized product ranges respecting product traceability. Ensure products meet established and in-progress improvement standards. May also support functional operations in Quality Control as needed.

Develops and implements quality control processes, inspection of products, and addresses any issues that arise during the production or post-production processes. Perform functions on laboratory equipment and fulfill reports on materials, processes, and products using variable or attribute measuring instruments and techniques to ensure conformance with the company’s quality standards.  Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Supports the business plan and objectives by helping meet the requirements of divisional, customer, and overall business goals and strategy.

Will provide technical support to manufacturing operations by ensuring products delivered to customers are manufactured in accordance with established quality and safety standards as well as meeting all customer requirements. This postition will work closely in conjuntion, as a team, with Production, Supplier Quality, Purchasing, Customer Quality, Warehouse/Logistics, Planning, Sales Administration as well as other internal departments depentent on the responsibility.

Responsibilities and Objectives:

Quality Assurance Protocols and Processes:

  • Develop and maintain quality assurance standards and inspection processes for products.
  • Conduct detailed testing and inspections to ensure products comply with established quality standards.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Analyze and interpret quality data to identify trends and areas needing improvement.
  • Generate test reports and document findings with actionable recommendations.
  • Assist with laboratory assessments as needed to address service requests.

Continuous Improvement and Issue Investigation:

  • Take a proactive approach to continuous improvement in productivity, quality, and safety.
  • Investigate product malfunctions or material defects, analyze failures/non-conformities, and document findings.
  • Lead root cause analyzes to address product quality issues and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Create and assign corrective actions and coordinate timely and effective resolutions for internal and external issues.

Non-Conformance Management:

  • Initiate efforts to prevent nonconformities.
  • Identify, document, and monitor nonconformities to ensure corrective actions are effective.
  • Standardize solutions to prevent future nonconformities.

Collaboration and Process Integration:

  • Work closely with engineering to evaluate processes, equipment, and suppliers to ensure production efficiency.
  • Partner with production teams to integrate process improvements effectively.
  • Perform capability studies on current and new processes, adjusting processes and tools as necessary.
  • Conduct Gage R&R (Repeatability and Reproducibility) studies and develop reliable tools and inspection gages for assembly processes.

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Update and maintain comprehensive quality documents (eg, RMAs, FMEAs, control plans).
  • Ensure proper documentation of supplier and customer data using the correct formats.

Support for Incoming and Outgoing Quality Inspections:

  • Assist suppliers with meeting acceptable quality standards through incoming inspections.
  • Oversee internal product checks to ensure acceptable quality levels before final shipping (outgoing inspections).

Problem Solving and Technical Support:

  • Collect data, analyze it, and select actionable alternatives to solve quality-related problems.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to departments regarding quality processes.
  • Facilitate cross-departmental problem-solving and communication to address production/service challenges.

Global Collaboration:

  • Coordinate with European and Asian team members to maintain consistent quality standards organization-wide.

Professional Conduct:

  • Exhibit professionalism in dress, communication (in-person, phone, email), and interactions with colleagues.
  • Work collaboratively to support team efforts and take on additional responsibilities when required.
  • Maintain a strong results-oriented focus while delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Follow all safety, quality, and environmental guidelines
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in product quality engineering or a similar role.
  • In lieu of a degree, a high school diploma and 5+ years of recent Quality Engineering experience within a production or manufacturing environment.
  • 2+ years prior experience in manufacturing or production industries.
  • Expertise in metrology equipment, uses and limitations (required).
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings (required).
  • Good knowledge of Geometric tolerances and dimensioning (required).
  • Applied experience with basic quality tools such as RCCA methodologies, value-stream maps, flowcharts, PFMEA, and PDCA.
  • Applied understanding of ISO 9001 or an equivalent system.
  • Certification in quality management (e.g., CQE, CQA) is a plus.
  • Ability to be able to enter and work in a cleanroom environment.
  • Strong understanding of materials and ability to implement and understand SPC analysis.
  • Strong computer skills: particularly Microsoft Office 365 suite and SAP knowledge.
  • Technical knowledge and experience (mechanical, electrical, software).
  • Must possess the ability to substantiate and clearly communicate information to an international audience.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills, curiosity, comprehension, self-motivation, problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to define own tasks and demonstrate solid work ethic and team oriented behavior.

Work schedule:

  • Position reports on-site to the Duncan, SC Office: M – F, 8:00am to 5:00pm.
  • Expectation to follow guidelines set forth in the Employee Handbook.
