Job description

The QA/QC Inspector will develop, implement, and maintain the company's Quality Assurance/Quality Control program for all mechanical construction projects. The ideal candidate will provide technical expertise and leadership to ensure that all work meets the highest quality standards, complies with relevant codes (ASME, IPC, UPC, NFPA, etc.), and exceeds client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Management & Implementation:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the project-specific Quality Assurance/Quality Control plans and procedures in alignment with company policies and project requirements.
  • Lead preparatory, initial, and follow-up inspections for all phases of work.
  • Manage and support on-site quality teams, providing direction and mentorship to QA/QC personnel.
  • Champion continuous improvement efforts, identifying trends in quality data and implementing corrective actions to address issues.

Inspection & Testing:
  • Oversee regular site inspections and quality audits to verify workmanship and material compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure all testing and commissioning activities (e.g., pressure tests, leak tests, equipment startups, system balancing) are performed correctly and documented.
  • Coordinate the activities of third-party inspection and testing agencies, ensuring all necessary testing is performed and reports are accurate.

Documentation & Compliance:
  • Maintain detailed QA/QC records, including inspection reports, test certificates, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and deficiency logs.
  • Manage non-conformance issues, track them to completion, and ensure timely implementation of approved corrective actions (root cause analysis).
  • Prepare and provide high-quality reports on quality performance to management and clients.

Collaboration & Communication:
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and clients to resolve quality-related issues and ensure project success.
  • Lead weekly QC meetings with the superintendent and project team, providing written reports on progress and reinforcing quality standards.

Requirements
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Experience: 5-10+ years of progressive experience in construction quality management, with a strong background in mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, process piping).
  • Certifications (Preferred): Current or previous certifications such as Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or ASNT Level II or III in NDE methods (RT, UT, MT, PT, VT).
  • Technical Knowledge (Preferred): Advanced knowledge of applicable codes and standards (ASME, IPC, UPC, NFPA, AWS, SMACNA) and the ability to interpret design drawings and specifications.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software (e.g., Procore , Bluebeam, ACC, etc)
  • Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements
  • The role may require working on active construction sites in varying weather conditions, standing for long periods, climbing ladders, and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
