Position Highlights
SUMMARY: The RN's purpose is to provide quality nursing care to our patients and to supervise the staff working with the RN to coordinate cares with ancillary staff, and to communicate effectively with the physician to ensure patient care
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Graduate from a CCNE or NLN accredited nursing program is strongly preferred. Graduate from an approved nursing program is acceptable.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
  • Licensed as a registered nurse in Iowa and/or meeting the requirements of multi-state licensure required.
  • Iowa Mandatory Reporter training within three months of employment.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required. TNCC is required if working in the Emergency Department. All certifications must be acquired within 12 months of employment and must be kept current throughout employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assesses physical condition and nursing needs of inpatients, outpatients and ER patients.
  • Plans for patient's total care needs in cooperation with members of the medical care team and personnel of other departments.
  • Performs daily charge nurse duties. Implements, delegates and supervises nursing care in patient care units by overseeing LPNs, patient care technicians and health unit coordinators.
  • Adds or modifies services as determined by outcomes evaluation
  • Communicates clearly with patients, staff and doctors. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves them in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Assists in orientation of new personnel to units.
  • Maintains records of medical and nursing treatments and related services executed by nursing staff through appropriate and accurate documentation and utilization of the electronic medical record.
  • Checks crash cart and defibrillator daily. Performs monthly outdated-medication checks.
  • Administers medications efficiently and correctly utilizing the Pyxis system. Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration.
  • Performs quality assurance screening (i.e., Infection Control/Safety) on a monthly basis.
  • Maintains competency with operational equipment.
