Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
DEFINITION
Assists pharmacy management in daily operations of the Pharmacy department. Provides consultative pharmaceutical care services to the medical, nursing and pharmacy staffs. Provides prescribed medications, drugs and other pharmaceuticals. Compounds medications according to professional standards and practices. Participates in the departmental QI program and performs duties as directed.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy (BS) or Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy (Pharm. D.) from an accredited college or university.
Experience
Completion of internship. Preferred minimum two years' experience as a Pharmacist.
Licensure/Certification
Completion of a five-year program from an accredit school of Pharmacy. Registration of CA license is required.
Current BLS required within 90 days of hire/transfer
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Modern methods and procedures of compounding/dispensing prescriptions and stock pharmaceutical preparation.
Intravenous additive mixtures and unit dose/medication distribution systems.
Drugs, chemicals and pharmaceutical supplies required of a hospital pharmacy.
State and federal laws pertaining to the dispensing of controlled substances, drugs, and poisons.
Modern office methods, procedures and computer software
Ability to:
Maintains records and prepares clear and concise reports.
Compounds a variety of prescriptions.
Coordinate the work of diverse functional divisions in a pharmacy system.
Interpret, apply and explain complex rules regulations and conclusions, devise workable solutions, and adopt effective courses of action.
Read and interpret prescriptions from physician's order.
Safely handle pharmaceutical and pharmacy equipment.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and fellow co-workers.
Proficiently operate Pyxis System, requires the ability to troubleshoot and maintain the machine. Pyxis report writing skills necessary.
Manage emergency or crisis situations; requires judgment/action which could result in undesirable patient outcomes.
AGE-SPECIFIC COMPENTENCY
Maintains, demonstrates and is assessed on the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for physical, psychosocial and cultural needs appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
