Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Systems Engineer or Principal Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, Florida.
Candidate will design, develop, test, validate, integrate, and maintain complex mission critical workflow management and data integration systems for the program. This includes creating end to end digital thread solutions, custom software tooling, and delivering data analytics dashboards that provide leadership level visibility into previously inaccessible data. The role requires close collaboration with program leadership, subject matter experts, and distributed development teams to ensure that every system meets functional, performance, and compliance requirements. Should be capable of performing in a high demand, fast paced Agile environment.
Candidate is expected to have advanced technical abilities in Atlassian Jira and Confluence development, as well as the ability to write custom scripts (Python, JavaScript, SQL, etc.). It is also highly preferred that the candidate has a general understanding of the technical change management process in an engineering environment.
Essential Functions:
  • Create and manage system level requirements, ensuring full traceability from high level program objectives through to code level implementation in JIRA, Python, JavaScript/HTML, Tableau, and related tools.
  • Architect and implement complex, integrated systems that create digital threads across disparate data sets and legacy platforms.
  • Use tools such as Python, Groovy, or JavaScript to create customized software features.
  • Lead risk mitigation and change management activities, identifying technical bottlenecks, proposing corrective actions, and updating the system architecture to reflect evolving program priorities.
  • Maintain and evolve existing production systems, providing ongoing support, enhancements, and documentation that cannot be serviced by other organizations.
  • Produce clear technical documentation, system design specifications, and training materials to ensure knowledge transfer and long term sustainment of all team deliverables.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Principal Engineer Systems: Bachelors in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 5 years engineering related experience, OR Master's in STEM with 3 years of experience
  • Engineer Systems: Bachelors in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 2 years engineering related experience, OR Master's in STEM with 0 years of experience
  • Your ability to transfer and maintain a final adjudicated government SECRET security clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities; comfortable presenting technical concepts to senior program leadership.
  • Hands on experience with JIRA, Tableau, and Python to build workflow automation and analytics solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • An active, In-scope DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance
  • Previous or existing Program Access Request (PAR)
  • Experience with Agile / Scrum
  • Experience developing with ScriptRunner/Groovy, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, SQL, and API integration
  • Understanding of Change Management in an engineering environment

Primary Level Salary Range: $100,000.00 - $100,000.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $0.00 - $0.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
