What is Python?

Python is a programming language used to write or develop a variety of programs and applications. The software developer community uses Python for programming because it is a simple language that is easy to test and debug. Large internet companies such as Facebook, Google, Reddit, and Amazon use Python, and so do government agencies such as NASA. Programmer professionals have used Python to help build popular software such as Autodesk Maya and other visual design applications. Financial professionals and stock traders use Python when scripting algorithms for economic predictions or computerized trading.

What is a Python developer?

A Python developer is a software programmer who specializes in writing, testing, and maintaining code using the Python programming language. They can work on a variety of projects, including web development, data analysis, machine learning, automation, and scripting. Python developers often collaborate with other team members to design solutions and ensure the functionality and performance of applications. Their responsibilities may also include debugging programs, integrating third-party services, and writing documentation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Python developer?

To thrive as a Python Developer, you need strong programming skills in Python, knowledge of software development principles, and typically a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with frameworks like Django or Flask, version control systems such as Git, and experience with databases are highly valued, along with certifications like PCEP or PCAP. Effective problem-solving, communication, and teamwork are essential soft skills to excel in collaborative and dynamic environments. These skills collectively ensure the delivery of robust, maintainable code and efficient project outcomes in technology-driven organizations.

What are some common challenges Python developers face when working on large-scale projects?

Python developers often encounter challenges such as managing dependencies, ensuring code scalability, and maintaining performance on large-scale projects. Collaboration with cross-functional teams can add complexity, especially when integrating with systems written in other languages. Adopting best practices like modular code structure, thorough documentation, and automated testing can help mitigate these challenges and streamline teamwork.

What is the difference between Python developer vs Java developer?

Job description

Job Description (General Summary)
ABOUT INTRALOX
Intralox, L.L.C., a division of Laitram, L.L.C., is a global leader in conveyance solutions that improve lives and optimize businesses worldwide. Our global workforce of over 3,000 employees across 20+ countries are reliable problem solvers who design and deliver solutions that have driven customer growth for more than 50 years. We are deeply committed to innovation, integrity, and continuous improvement - and we are now scaling the next frontier of that innovation: an enterprise-grade data and AI platform built on Palantir Foundry and AIP.
WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS
Our Digital Technologies (DT) department is building a core Palantir practice at Intralox. We are turning decades of operational data into decision-ready pipelines, Ontology-backed applications, and AIP-powered workflows that create measurable value for our business and our customers. We are looking for experienced Palantir Foundry Engineers to join this team and accelerate that work from day one. We are looking for builders who have already shipped real solutions in Foundry and AIP, plus thrive on turning business problems into modern and highly operational software delivering value.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Palantir Foundry & AIP Engineers at Intralox work across the full solution stack. Depending on your strengths, you will take the lead on one or more of the following areas:
Data Engineering & Integration
Design, build, and maintain data pipelines in Palantir Pipeline Builder and Code Repositories (Python/PySpark/SQL)
Onboard new data sources from enterprise systems (ERP, CRM, Machine Controllers) through Palantir Data Connection
Establish and enforce data quality standards, monitoring, and lineage visibility across the platform
Ontology & Application Building
Develop and extend the Intralox Ontology in Ontology Manager - defining object types, links, and action types that reflect our business model
Build tailored Workshop or Web applications for operators and business users across manufacturing, commercial, and service functions
Implement business logic through Palantir Functions and connect it cleanly to the Ontology
Collaborate with Palantir developers and internal stakeholders to architect reusable, scalable use cases
AI & Analytics
Integrate AI models and AIP Logic into operational workflows to enable AI-assisted decision-making
Build analysis workflows in Code Workbook or Code Workspaces for data science and predictive modeling use cases
Support analysts in building repeatable dashboards and reports in Contour and Quiver
Delivery & Collaboration
Partner with business stakeholders, like various engineering and business roles, plus people managers to scope and prioritize use cases
Contribute to platform governance standards alongside the DT core team
Mentor and guide team members who are developing their Palantir skills
Participate in a globally distributed team
WHAT YOU BRING
Required
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Science, or Engineering - or equivalent professional experience
At least 2 years building in Palantir Foundry (pipelines, Ontologies, or apps), not just using dashboards
Proficiency in at least two of the following: Pipeline Builder, Code Repositories (Python/Spark), Workshop, Ontology Manager, AIP Logic, or Slate
Production-grade coding ability in Python; working knowledge of TypeScript
Familiarity with engineering best practices: Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and logging
Track record of delivering complete Palantir use cases, from data onboarding through to the end-user application
Experience owning data pipelines post-deployment - monitoring, troubleshooting, and improving them in production
Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders
Comfortable working independently in a globally distributed, asynchronous team
Professional proficiency in English
Preferred
Experience with Palantir AIP, including model integration, AIP Logic, and AI-assisted workflow design
Background or domain knowledge in manufacturing, industrial operations, supply chain, or logistics
Proficiency with Code Workbook or Code Workspaces for Python- or R-based data science and ML workflows
Experience acting in multiple Palantir roles within a single engagement (e.g., data engineer + app builder)
Familiarity with platform administration, security markings, or data governance tooling in Foundry
Prior experience scaling a Palantir practice within an enterprise organization
