Job description

Genesis10 is currently seeking a Senior Python Engineer for a contract position with a Global Financial Institution located in Jersey City, NJ or New York, NY. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity.
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Python Engineer to design, build, and scale our core backend infrastructure. You will be responsible for building robust, high-performance services that handle high-volume traffic. This is a role for an engineer who prioritizes architectural integrity, system performance, and maintainability. You will lead the design of distributed services, optimize data throughput, and ensure our backend systems are resilient and scalable.
Responsibilities:
  • Architect and implement scalable distributed systems using Python (FastAPI/Django/Flask)
  • Apply advanced patterns for load balancing, caching strategies (Redis), and asynchronous task processing to ensure maximum responsiveness
  • Diagnose and resolve system bottlenecks, optimize database schemas and queries (PostgreSQL/SQLAlchemy, Oracle)
  • Create maintainable, modular object models and interfaces, ensuring a clean and well-structured codebase
  • Develop secure, performant RESTful APIs with robust validation and error handling
  • Develop/modify PL/SQL, SQL Views, stored procedures, and database triggers
  • Mentor the team, conduct rigorous code reviews, and establish high standards for documentation and testing
  • Develop test cases and perform unit testing

Requirements:
  • 5+ years of professional experience in Python-based backend development
  • Proven track record in designing microservices or distributed systems, with an understanding of load balancers, proxies, and caching layers
  • Advanced ability to identify and resolve performance issues, including managing concurrency and optimizing memory usage in Python
  • Expert-level knowledge of modern Python frameworks (FastAPI, Django, or Flask)
  • Deep understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle) and ORMs (SQLAlchemy), with experience in optimizing complex queries
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and deploying Python applications to the cloud
  • Experience developing in an Agile project methodology
  • Good knowledge in DevOps tools like Jenkins, Artifactory, and GitHub/Bit Bucket
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills

Desired skills:
  • Experience with OCR and NLP technologies
  • 2+ years of experience with Data Analysis
  • Compliance or Operational Risk experience
  • Knowledge of Informatica, Autosys, or Unix Concepts
  • Experience with Jira

Pay range: $58.26 - $66.26 per hour
