Position Summary

OMG Federal is proactively identifying talented professionals who embody our entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to service. This position is not currently funded but is expected as part of upcoming program requirements. Candidates will be notified as funding and hiring timelines are confirmed. We are seeking a Python Middleware Developer to support a federal client in the Washington, DC area on a major application modernization initiative. This role will focus on designing, developing, and maintaining secure middleware, APIs, and backend services that modernize legacy systems and improve enterprise integration capabilities. The ideal candidate is a skilled Python developer with experience in scalable backend architectures, DevSecOps practices, and Agile delivery environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance, and maintain Python 3.x middleware and backend services
• Design, build, and support secure REST APIs for internal and external integrations
• Develop solutions using FastAPI, Flask, Django, or similar Python frameworks
• Create workflow automation and system integration solutions across enterprise platforms
• Integrate applications with databases, APIs, and other enterprise data sources
• Support modernization of legacy systems into scalable, maintainable architectures
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, and demos
• Support CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevSecOps best practices
• Troubleshoot production issues and support system performance optimization
• Prepare technical documentation, deployment procedures, and operational guides
• Collaborate with technical teams, program leadership, and stakeholders to deliver project milestones
• Ensure solutions meet federal cybersecurity, compliance, and accessibility requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field is preferred; a high school diploma or equivalent is required
• 3+ years of professional software development experience
• Strong hands-on experience with Python 3.x
• Experience with FastAPI, Flask, or Django
• Experience developing and supporting REST APIs
• Experience integrating applications with databases and enterprise systems
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment and collaboratively with distributed teams
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience supporting federal agencies or government contractors
• Experience with federal application modernization initiatives
• Experience modernizing or replacing legacy systems
• Cloud platform experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes
• Python Institute certifications strongly preferred:
o PCEP (Certified Entry-Level Python Programmer)

Work Environment & Schedule
