Python Programmers need strong problem-solving skills and a good understanding of programming concepts. They often collaborate with other developers, data scientists, and stakeholders to build efficient and scalable solutions.

What do Python programmers do?

A Python programmer uses the programming language called Python to write code for various applications, including big data manipulation, web servers, program scripting, and more. In this career, the software allows you to program quicker using fewer lines, which creates an easy-to-read code. You can find work in web or game development, data visualization, and analyzing data, among others. Your job duties vary based on your specialization, but they usually include working with files and extensive support libraries, creating, testing and implementing new or updated applications, and examining the code to spot problems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Python programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Python Programmer, you need strong proficiency in Python programming, understanding of algorithms, and a background in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with development tools like Git, testing frameworks such as PyTest, and experience with libraries like Django or Flask are typically required. Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and effective teamwork are standout soft skills for this role. These skills ensure the development of reliable, scalable software solutions and smooth collaboration within technical teams.

What are some common challenges Python programmers face when working on large-scale projects, and how can they overcome them?

Python Programmers working on large-scale projects often encounter challenges such as managing code maintainability, optimizing performance, and coordinating with cross-functional teams. To address these, it’s essential to follow best practices like modular programming, using virtual environments, and employing version control systems such as Git. Regular code reviews and clear communication within the team help maintain code quality and ensure everyone is aligned. Leveraging frameworks and libraries effectively can also streamline development and reduce repetitive tasks.

Job description

Job Title: Python AI Engineer
Location: Salt Lake City, UT or Phoenix, AZ or Sunrise, FL
Worksite: Onsite
About WCT
WCT is a global talent solutions partner committed to delivering high-impact technology and engineering talent to some of the world's most innovative companies. As a WCT employee, you'll be part of a dynamic, growth-oriented culture that values collaboration, continuous learning, and excellence in execution.
Job Summary
  • We are hiring a Python Platform Engineer to operate and evolve the infrastructure behind an enterprise knowledge base platform that is moving from a Confluence-focused RAG chatbot into a broader agentic knowledge system.
  • Today, the platform supports Confluence/GitHub ingestion → chunking → pgvector → RAG retrieval → FastAPI serving. Over the next phase, we are expanding toward hybrid retrieval (vector + sparse + graph), multi-source ingestion, evaluation pipelines, agent infrastructure, harness and shared chat platform primitives.

What You'll Own:
  • Architect and implement backend services in Python 3.11, FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy async, and asyncpg
  • Design retrieval and orchestration trade-offs around quality, latency, cost, safety, and operational simplicity
  • Build production-grade agent runtime capabilities: memory boundaries, tool sandboxing, permissions, and budget controls
  • Improve answer grounding, failure analysis, and citation enforcement rather than optimizing for demo behavior
  • Create observability and operational feedback loops with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus/Grafana, Docker/Helm, and GitHub Actions
  • Work closely with product and engineering partners to support multiple conversational surfaces through one knowledge platform
  • Ingestion infrastructure across current and future content sources
  • Observability across application, pipeline, database, and model-serving behavior
  • Cost, latency, throughput, and failure-mode management for AI-heavy workloads
  • Release workflows that validate AI behavior changes, not just code compilation

Qualifications:
  • Strong hands-on experience with Python in platform, automation, or infrastructure-heavy environments
  • Experience building CLI tools using Python, Golang or Rust.
  • Hands-on experience with LangGraph, LangChain, pgvector, and modern retrieval pipelines
  • Experience designing evaluation frameworks for LLM-backed systems, including regression detection and quality measurement
  • Strong experience with Docker, Helm, GitHub Actions, and Kubernetes-oriented workflows
  • Familiarity with the operational characteristics of embedding pipelines, vector search, and LLM-backed systems
  • Strong observability skills across metrics, tracing, dashboards, alerting, and log analysis
  • Experience with ingestion, ETL, or content-processing pipelines at scale
  • Ability to think in terms of reliability, cost, latency, throughput, and recovery

Nice to Have:
  • Experience with Qdrant, Neo4j, or other vector/graph infrastructure
  • Experience supporting RAG, search, evaluation, or agent platforms
  • Experience in enterprise or regulated environments
  • Familiarity with Vault, Splunk, Artifactory, ECR
  • Comfort using AI-assisted engineering workflows in day-to-day work

Compensation / Salary Range: The typical pay range for this role is: USD $110,000/Yearly - $125,000/Yearly. Factors that may affect pay within or outside of this range may include but not limited to geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
Benefits: Medical, dental, Vision, Life, PTO, Holidays, 401(k) benefits and ancillaries may be available for eligible WCT employees and may vary depending on the nature of your employment.
WCT will accept applications and processes offers for these roles until the role is filled.
Equal Employment Opportunity Declaration:
WCT is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, ancestry, color, family or medical care leave, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, medical condition, national origin, physical or mental disability, political affiliation, protected veteran status, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations and ordinances.
