About the Job

You will play a key role within the engineering team, contributing to the design, development, and validation of advanced electronic systems for space applications.

Your role will encompass end-to-end hardware development, including schematic capture, PCB layout support, component selection, and ensuring compliance with EMC and space reliability requirements. Your responsibilities will vary daily and may include hands-on design work, cross-functional collaboration, and technical leadership on complex programs.

This role offers strong growth potential, including opportunities to lead hardware development efforts, mentor junior engineers, and influence system architecture decisions.

You will become a critical member of a team of engineers, scientists, and space enthusiasts who are passionate about contributing to humanity's next bold steps in space exploration.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Design and develop analog and digital electronic circuits for space and mission-critical applications
  • Lead schematic design and guide PCB layout to ensure signal integrity, power integrity, and manufacturability
  • Perform and support electromagnetic compatibility (EMC/EMI) analysis, testing, and mitigation strategies
  • Select, qualify, and manage EEE (Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical) parts in accordance with space and high-reliability standards
  • Conduct design reviews (PDR, CDR) and ensure compliance with program requirements and industry standards
  • Support hardware bring-up, debugging, and environmental testing (thermal, vibration, radiation as applicable)
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, and systems engineering teams
  • Contribute to documentation, including design reports, test procedures, and compliance matrices

Accountability:

  • Delivery of high-quality, reliable hardware designs on schedule
  • Ensuring compliance with EMC and reliability requirements
  • Technical leadership and mentorship within the electrical engineering function

Collaboration:

  • Work with cross-functional engineering teams, program managers, and external partners/suppliers
  • Support the Mission Control team by advancing hardware capabilities for space missions
  • Collaborate with colleagues to continuously improve engineering processes and product quality
  • Contribute to a positive, startup-oriented team culture

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience in electrical/embedded hardware design
  • Strong experience in PCB design (multi-layer, high-speed, mixed-signal systems)
  • Proven expertise in EMC/EMI design, testing, and mitigation
  • Experience with EEE parts selection and qualification for high-reliability or space environments
  • Familiarity with relevant standards (e.g., IPC, MIL, ECSS, NASA guidelines)
  • Experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, etc.)
  • Design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for test (DFT) practices
  • Familiarity with embedded C/C++ or scripting (Python, MATLAB) for testing and automation

Special Comments

Security: Successful candidates must be eligible to obtain a security clearance in Canada at the reliability status level (and potentially at the higher levels), and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

Due to the security clearance required for Mission Control's facility, only Canadian Citizen's and Permanent Residents are eligible at this time.

Salary: The salary range for this position is $105 000- $170 000. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications and experience

Location

This position may be based in Ottawa or St. Mary's, Ontario. The successful candidate must live near one of our office locations, or be willing to relocate.

Some travel may be required at certain times for this role, always following the Health and Safety Guidance of the Government of Canada.
