Join the Finance & Investments Technology BSA, a team focused on delivering innovative technology solutions that support Nationwide's finance and investment operations. This role offers the opportunity to influence enterprise-wide engineering standards, build reusable capabilities leveraged across multiple teams, and work with modern cloud and data technologies while partnering with architecture, security, governance, and product leaders.

Required Skills

  • Advanced Python and ETL framework design - Strong production experience with Python, modular architecture, reusable components, packaging, testing, error handling, performance optimization, and maintainable pipeline design.

  • API and SDK integration - Expertise integrating REST APIs, third-party SDKs, databases, files, and cloud services using secure authentication, pagination, rate limiting, retries, schema validation, and resilient error handling.

  • Data engineering and quality - Strong SQL, data modeling, schema mapping, incremental and bulk loading, data validation, reconciliation, deduplication, data contracts, and schema evolution.

  • Cloud-native delivery and Nationwide Golden Path alignment - Experience with containers, CI/CD, GitHub, automated testing, observability, secure configuration, and platforms such as AWS, Snowflake, Databricks, or Harmonia.

  • Technical leadership and sustainable development - Ability to lead design decisions, mentor engineers, document standards, and use GitHub Copilot with VS Code responsibly to improve productivity while maintaining security, quality, and long-term maintainability. A recognized Python certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve the ETL framework by defining reusable extraction, transformation, validation, loading, configuration, logging, retry, checkpointing, audit, and restartability patterns.

  • Build and support data integrations with third-party APIs, SDKs, databases, files, SaaS platforms, and cloud services.

  • Implement reliable data transformations and loads including normalization, enrichment, deduplication, business-rule processing, reconciliation, delta processing, upserts, and bulk loading.

  • Drive production readiness through automated unit and integration testing, CI/CD, containerized execution, data quality controls, monitoring, alerting, SLA tracking, and secure secrets management.

  • Lead and enable the engineering team through architecture and code reviews, mentoring, technical documentation, stakeholder collaboration, and effective use of GitHub Copilot with VS Code.

Work Arrangement: This role follows a hybrid schedule and requires in-office presence in our Columbus OH office location two days per week. Candidates must be based within a commutable distance to Columbus, Ohio.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, mathematics or related field is strongly preferred.

Experience: Six years of experience in programming and systems analysis. Three years of experience in project management is preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Hands-on technical leadership experience leading project teams and setting technical direction. Proficiency in one programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle sophisticated business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resources Business Partner.
