Who we're looking for

Toyota's OneTech Data Science and Machine Learning Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Principal Data Scientist.

The primary responsibility of this role is to lead the design, development, and industrialization of advanced data science and machine learning solutions that drive measurable business value across multiple domains.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Data Science and Machine Learning, the person in this role will support the Data Science and Machine Learning department's objective to accelerate the adoption of scalable analytics, machine learning, and AI solutions across the quality, service parts, and manufacturing domains.


What you'll be doing

  • Lead and contribute to the end-to-end delivery of complex data science initiatives across discovery, data exploration, experimentation, proof-of-concept, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement

  • Design and develop scalable machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, optimization, and generative AI solutions for business and manufacturing use cases

  • Translate ambiguous business problems into clear analytical approaches, technical designs, and deployable solutions that create measurable impact

  • Build production-quality solutions using Python, PySpark, SQL, and enterprise data science platforms to support robust model development and operationalization

  • Partner with product managers, data engineers, Machine Learning (ML) engineers, domain experts, and business stakeholders to ensure successful implementation and adoption of data science solutions

  • Drive technical excellence in model evaluation, interpretability, robustness, performance tuning, and production readiness

  • Contribute to reusable frameworks, standards, and best practices that improve team productivity and solution quality

What you bring

  • Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related quantitative field, and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience

  • Strong hands-on experience delivering data science solutions across the full lifecycle from proof-of-concept to production deployment

  • Technical expertise in machine learning, statistical modeling, deep learning, optimization, computer vision, and generative AI methods

  • Hands-on proficiency with Python, PySpark, SQL, and modern data science development practices for scalable and maintainable solutions

Added bonus if you have

  • A PhD in a related quantitative field

  • Experience applying data science in product quality, manufacturing quality, or related industrial quality domains

  • Experience in automotive or advanced manufacturing environments

  • Proficiency with GenAI agents, including designing, orchestrating, or deploying agent-based AI workflows for business use cases and data science workflow efficiency improvement

  • Experience working in AWS cloud

  • Hands-on experience with enterprise platforms and tools such as AWS SageMaker developer tools, Databricks, Spark, Airflow, and GitHub
