Job description

The opportunity

Are you a highly capable test engineer who thrives in fast-paced hardware development environments and enjoys solving difficult engineering problems? Infravision is looking for a Senior R&D Test Engineer to help build and validate next-generation aerial robotics and autonomous systems for power grid modernization. This is a senior individual contributor role with a clear path to leading the test engineering function as the team scales - you will be the architect of our test infrastructure, not just an operator of it.

About Infravision

Infravision is transforming how the world builds and maintains power grids. With its proprietary aerial robotics system, the company enables utilities, contractors, and developers to expand transmission and distribution infrastructure faster, safer, with lower environmental and community impact, and at significantly reduced costs. Operating globally, Infravision is helping meet the urgent demand for reliable and resilient grid infrastructure.

Why work for Infravision

  • Build critical infrastructure at global scale. Join a team modernizing how power infrastructure is built-solving real-world constraints in speed, safety, and access across some of the most complex environments on Earth.
  • Work on technology that's actually deployed. Our systems are used in live projects with leading utilities, contractors, and developers worldwide. This is applied engineering, not theory.
  • Competitive compensation and meaningful ownership. We offer a competitive salary, benefits, and equity participation so employees share directly in the value created as the company grows.
  • High-caliber, collaborative team. Work alongside engineers, operators, and builders in a fast-moving, hands-on environment that values clarity, trust, and getting things done.

What you'll do

  • Lead integrated test campaigns for aerial robotic systems and autonomous platforms, from bench validation through field deployment.
  • Design and commission test systems including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), environmental, endurance, vibration, and field test setups.
  • Develop automated test infrastructure using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or equivalent - building frameworks, not just running scripts.
  • Own data acquisition, telemetry, and instrumentation systems across the engineering program.
  • Drive root-cause investigations and reliability improvements in collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and software teams.
  • Support domestic and international field deployments.
  • Mentor junior engineers and establish scalable test engineering best practices as the team grows.
  • Define test priorities, manage the test program independently, and communicate findings clearly to engineering leadership.

What we are looking for

  • Engineering depth: You've seen enough hardware failures to have strong intuitions about why systems break, and you know how to build test programs that surface problems early.
  • Infrastructure builder: You don't just run tests - you build the systems that make testing scalable, automated, and repeatable.
  • Cross-functional communicator: You translate test data into actionable engineering insight and communicate clearly with mechanical, software, and operations stakeholders.
  • Self-directed: You define your own test priorities, manage your program independently, and push back constructively when schedule pressure threatens rigor.
  • Field-ready: You are willing to travel to operational sites domestically and internationally.
  • Focused: We are a small team with many competing priorities. You isolate where you can have the greatest impact and rigorously prioritize.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Robotics, or related engineering field.
  • 7-10+ years of experience in aerospace, robotics, autonomous systems, UAVs, or advanced hardware test.
  • Experience with instrumentation, DAQ systems, telemetry, and environmental testing.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills - Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar; able to build automated test frameworks.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting across electrical, mechanical, and software systems.
  • Experience conducting validation and qualification programs for high-reliability hardware.

Preferred:

  • Experience scaling a test engineering function from scratch or leading a test team.
  • Background in aerospace, defense, or safety-critical hardware (DO-178C, DO-254, MIL-STD, or equivalent).
  • Experience with power electronics testing or high-voltage systems.
  • Familiarity with transmission, utility, or industrial equipment.
