GIS Engineer

Houston, TX (Hybrid & In-person Interview) 

 

Advanced SQL (complex queries, performance tuning, integration)

GIS/Spatial data experience (ArcGIS, spatial SQL, Python/ArcPy)

Top 3 skill sets/technologies required for qualification:

1): Strong SQL knowledge

2): Intermediate software development experience (frontend & backend knowledge)

3): intermediate geospatial skills (spatial data format, coordinate system, ArcGIS)

Job Description:

We are seeking a hands-on Data Engineer contractor to design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines, automation workflows, and BI solutions. This role focuses on integrating data across multiple systems, ensuring high data quality, and delivering actionable insights to support business decision-making.

 

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines integrating data from diverse systems and sources

Write and optimize advanced SQL queries, views, and database objects

Design and optimize data pipeline architectures for performance and scalability

Design automated workflows using Python, SQL, Alteryx, Databricks, and related tools

Build and support BI dashboards in Power BI, Tableau, or Spotfire

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions

Manage multiple deliverables independently in a fast-paced environment

 

Required Skills:

Advanced SQL (complex queries, performance tuning, integration)

GIS/Spatial data experience (ArcGIS, spatial SQL, Python/ArcPy)

Strong ETL development experience across multiple platforms

Maintain full-stack web applications using modern frontend frameworks and backend services

Experience building and optimizing data pipelines and architectures

Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills

Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision

 

Preferred Skills:

Knowledge of data governance, quality, and lifecycle management

Experience with Databricks, Azure Data Factory, or similar platforms

Additional programming languages (JavaScript)
