Microsoft Purview Architect / Senior Consultant

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Purview Architect / Senior Consultant to lead the assessment, design, implementation, and optimization of Microsoft Purview capabilities across a complex enterprise environment. This individual will work closely with business, security, compliance, and IT stakeholders to evaluate current data protection and governance controls, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement Microsoft Purview solutions that strengthen data security, regulatory compliance, and AI governance.

The consultant will be responsible for developing and implementing policies related to Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Sensitivity Labels, Retention, Audit, and Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) for AI while ensuring alignment across the Microsoft security ecosystem, including Microsoft Defender, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Azure AI Foundry, and other approved AI platforms.


Key Responsibilities

Assessment & Planning

  • Assess existing Microsoft Purview deployments and configurations.
  • Evaluate current: 
    • Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies
    • Sensitivity Labels
    • Auto-labeling capabilities
    • Retention and Records Management policies
    • Audit and Compliance capabilities
    • DSPM for AI configurations
  • Review overlapping controls and integrations across: 
    • Microsoft Purview
    • Microsoft Defender
    • Microsoft 365 Copilot
    • Azure AI Foundry
    • Third-party and approved AI platforms
  • Conduct gap and redundancy analysis.
  • Identify implementation opportunities and security improvements.
  • Develop prioritized remediation and implementation roadmaps.

Policy Design & Governance

  • Collaborate with business and compliance stakeholders to gather requirements.
  • Design enterprise data protection and governance policies.
  • Define: 
    • Policy logic and enforcement criteria
    • Exception handling processes
    • Monitoring and alerting requirements
    • Reporting and dashboard requirements
    • Custom detection and policy scenarios
  • Ensure alignment with regulatory, audit, and corporate governance requirements.

Purview Implementation

  • Configure and deploy Microsoft Purview solutions including: 
    • Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
    • Sensitivity Labels
    • Auto-labeling Policies
    • Retention & Records Management Policies
    • Information Protection Controls
    • Insider Risk and Compliance capabilities where applicable
    • Audit and Monitoring configurations
    • DSPM for AI controls
    • AI governance, monitoring, and reporting solutions
  • Develop custom policy configurations and detection logic when supported by the platform.
  • Integrate Purview controls with broader Microsoft Security and AI ecosystems.

Validation & Optimization

  • Develop and execute testing strategies for implemented controls.
  • Validate policy effectiveness and business alignment.
  • Analyze false positives and tune configurations accordingly.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure solutions meet operational and compliance requirements.

Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

  • Produce detailed technical and operational documentation.
  • Create policy catalogs and implementation guides.
  • Deliver knowledge transfer sessions to client administrators and security teams.
  • Develop implementation backlogs and future-state recommendations for remaining work.

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in Microsoft security, compliance, and governance technologies.
  • 3+ years of hands-on Microsoft Purview implementation experience.
  • Experience leading data governance, compliance, or information protection initiatives.
  • Experience implementing AI governance and security controls within Microsoft environments.
  • Experience working with enterprise-scale Microsoft 365 ecosystems.
