Job Summary

The Buyer/OSP Coordinator is responsible for procuring materials and services required to support manufacturing operations, with a strong emphasis on managing and coordinating Outside Processing (OSP) activities. This role ensures materials and subcontracted services meet cost, quality, and delivery requirements while maintaining accurate system transactions and supplier communication. The position works closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Receiving to ensure seamless flow of purchased and OSP-processed parts through the facility.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Source and procure materials, components, and services in support of production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate all outside processing operations including, but not limited to, plating, heat treat, machining, grinding, paint, and special processes.
  • Verifies part numbers, revisions, specifications, and quantities against engineering and production requirements.
  • Communicate OSP requirements clearly to suppliers, including drawings, specifications, certifications, packaging, and return logistics.
  • Solicit, analyze, and negotiate supplier quotations for pricing, lead time, and delivery performance.
  • Prepare and issue purchase orders and change notices within the ERP system.
  • Track OSP parts through the supply chain to ensure timely return and production continuity.
  • Work closely with Scheduling, Production, and Shipping to manage priorities and delivery commitments.
  • Coordinate with the Production Scheduler regarding potential vendor delays and delivery risks.
  • Expedite open purchase orders as necessary to support on-time delivery goals.
  • Maintain approved supplier lists and assist with supplier evaluations and audits as required.
  • Support MRB, nonconformance, and rework activities involving OSP suppliers as needed.
  • Maintain and monitor supplier On-Time Delivery (OTD) Performance Reports in compliance with quality certifications (ISO, QS, etc.).
  • Serve as a point of contact for suppliers regarding purchasing-related inquiries.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and cost-analysis skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in documentation and data entry.
  • Excellent organizational skills required to complete work assignments and prioritize urgent matters.

Education and Experience

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.
  • 2-3 years of purchasing, buying, or procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience coordinating OSP or subcontracted processes strongly preferred
  • Work experience in related manufacturing environment is preferred.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Regularly required to walk or sit the duration of workday, 9 hours.
  • Frequently required to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, reach, or bend.
  • Frequently required to perform repetitive hand movements when doing computer work or paperwork.

Compensation: $55,000 - $65,000 annually (based on experience)
