Job description

Eastern DataComm is a fast-growing technology integrator specializing in physical security, network infrastructure, cybersecurity, communications, and life safety solutions. We are seeking an experienced and detail-driven Purchasing Manager to own the procurement function that keeps our projects on schedule and on budget.

This role sits at the center of the business while working between sales, project management, engineering, warehouse, and accounting to make sure the right material is sourced at the right price and arrives when the field team needs it. It’s ideal for someone who is equally comfortable negotiating with distributors, chasing down a lead time, and cleaning up the data behind it all.

Position Details
  • Location: Hackensack, NJ office | on-site
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Reports to: Vice President of Operations
  • Employment type: Full-time
Key Responsibilities Procurement & order management
  • Own the end-to-end purchasing process: convert approved bills of material, quotes, and change orders into accurate purchase orders
  • Source equipment and materials across security, video surveillance, access control, networking, VoIP, paging/clocks, cabling, and AV product lines
  • Confirm pricing, availability, and lead times before commitment; secure order acknowledgments and track them to delivery
  • Expedite backordered and long-lead items, and proactively communicate delivery risk to project managers and sales
Vendor & distributor relationships
  • Manage day-to-day relationships with manufacturers and distributors, and serve as the primary point of contact for pricing, escalations, and problem orders
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, freight, and rebates; drive cost savings without compromising quality or schedule
  • Maintain manufacturer program compliance, including deal registration, project pricing requests, and partner-level requirements
  • Evaluate and qualify new vendors as product lines and project needs evolve
Cost & margin support
  • Provide accurate material pricing and lead-time input to the sales and estimating teams during the quoting and bid proces
  • Support pricing on cooperative and public-sector contract vehicles, and ensure purchases align with contract and bid requirements
  • Monitor cost variances between estimated and actual material spend, and flag issues that affect project margin
Inventory & logistics
  • Partner with the warehouse team on receiving, stocking levels, staging for installations, and cycle counts
  • Maintain appropriate stock of commonly used materials while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory
  • Manage returns, RMAs, warranty replacements, and vendor credits through to resolution
  • Coordinate shipping, freight, and direct-to-site deliveries
Process, systems & reporting
  • Maintain accurate item, cost, and vendor data in the ERP/purchasing system
  • Reconcile purchase orders, packing slips, and vendor invoices with accounting; resolve discrepancies
  • Develop and enforce purchasing policies, approval thresholds, and documentation standards
  • Report on spend, savings, vendor performance, and open PO status to leadership
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience, with at least 2 years in a lead or management capacity
  • Experience purchasing in a project-based environment of technology integration, low-voltage, electrical, construction, or similar which is strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of security, networking, AV, or telecommunications products and the distribution channel that supports them
  • Demonstrated success negotiating pricing and terms with vendors and distributors
  • Strong proficiency with ERP, accounting, or purchasing software, and advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage a high volume of concurrent orders
  • Clear, professional communication with vendors, internal teams, and leadership
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • APICS/ISM certification (CPSM, CSCP, CPIM) a plus
What We’re Looking For
  • An owner’s mindset for someone who takes responsibility for the outcome, not just the paperwork
  • A problem solver who works the phones and gets answers when a lead time slips
  • Someone who improves the process while running it, and brings structure where it’s missing
  • A strong collaborator who works well across sales, operations, and finance
  • Comfort in a fast-paced environment with shifting project priorities
What We Offer
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) [with company match]
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Opportunity for growth within a rapidly expanding company
  • Collaborative and supportive team environment
  • Exposure to leading security, networking, and communications technologies
