Job description

Purchasing Specialist

Job Summary

The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for procuring materials, equipment, and subcontracted services in support of electrical construction projects. This position works closely with Project Managers, field leadership, vendors, suppliers, and warehouse personnel to ensure materials are purchased accurately, delivered on schedule, and aligned with project budgets and schedules. The Procurement Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining vendor relationships, managing purchasing activities, and supporting successful project execution.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Solicit and evaluate vendor quotations.
  • Prepare and issue purchase orders for materials, equipment, and subcontracted services.
  • Coordinate procurement of long-lead equipment and critical project materials.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers.
  • Monitor lead times and communicate material delivery schedules to Project Managers and field leadership.
  • Track material deliveries and resolve shortages, damaged shipments, pricing discrepancies, and vendor issues.
  • Coordinate with warehouse personnel regarding material deliveries, inventory, and project staging.
  • Review pricing and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Maintain procurement records, purchase logs, and vendor documentation.
  • Assist with vendor qualification and subcontractor documentation as required.
  • Coordinate returns, warranty claims, and vendor credits.
  • Support Project Managers by ensuring material procurement aligns with project schedules and budgets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous purchasing or procurement experience preferred.
  • Experience in electrical construction, industrial construction, or construction materials management is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and vendor relationships.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Acumatica or similar ERP software is preferred.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, material specifications, and vendor quotations is preferred.
