Purchasing Agent

Expected Pay Rate: $60,000 - $75,000 per year

At DGS, we are one team, working together to develop mission solutions – anywhere, anytime.

The Purchasing Agent will be responsible for procuring construction and manufacturing materials and related services, such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, and subcontracted trade work, of the appropriate quality, at the lowest realistic price, and within acceptable time frames. This role involves close coordination with engineers, project managers, logisticians and transporters to ensure the correct materials are procured at the right time to support project timelines. The Purchasing Agent locates suppliers, researches specifications, services, and materials, and processes purchase orders.

Duties and Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  • Procure construction and manufacturing materials and other goods and services in line with project specifications, safety controls, and security restrictions.
  • Receive, review and execute requests for goods or services in support of company contracts.
  • Communicate and negotiate with vendors regarding product or service price, availability, and delivery schedule.
  • Select products for purchase in close coordination with engineers and project managers.
  • Expedite orders and requests as needed.
  • Estimate supply values in advance of purchase negotiation.
  • Determine and execute the correct method of procurement, such as direct purchase or requesting bids.
  • Prepare purchase orders or bid requests.
  • Maintain procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
  • Address defective or unacceptable goods or services to determine source of deficiency and take corrective action, in close coordination with inspection or quality control personnel, end users, vendors, and others.
  • Work with manufacturers for, or persuade potential vendors to undertake, the manufacturing of custom-designed items, when necessary.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time salaried exempt position. Standard days and hours are 40 hours per week, with weekends and extended hours as needed. Ability to work flexible hours including nights, holidays, and weekends is required based on business needs.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of purchasing experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience purchasing construction materials in support of large construction projects (federal construction projects preferred)

Work Authorization / Security Clearance

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal government security clearance.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to travel within the Continental United States (CONUS).
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment (post offer) drug test and motor vehicle record review.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license compliant with REAL ID requirements.
