Job description

Seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to help launch a brand-new manufacturing facility in Houston, TX. This is a unique opportunity to play a key leadership role in a greenfield operation, building purchasing processes, developing supplier relationships, and leading procurement strategy from day one.

Direct Hire | Full-Time

Pay: 85k to 100K


As the Purchasing Manager, you'll lead the purchasing function and ensure materials are available to support production while driving cost savings, supplier performance, and operational excellence.


Responsibilities include:

  • Establish purchasing procedures and procurement workflows for a new manufacturing facility
  • Build and lead a small team of Buyers while developing KPIs and performance expectations
  • Manage procurement of OEM components, engineered parts, customer-specified materials, and specialized raw materials
  • Coordinate purchasing activities with Global Strategic Sourcing and internal operations teams
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships, including domestic and international vendors
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, and contracts while supporting Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) initiatives
  • Monitor supplier performance, delivery schedules, and inventory levels
  • Track Purchase Price Variance (PPV) and support continuous cost improvement initiatives
  • Work closely with production, planning, engineering, and supply chain teams to ensure uninterrupted material flow
  • Support inventory optimization for long lead-time and critical materials


What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field
  • 6+ years of progressive purchasing or procurement experience within manufacturing
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience managing Buyers or Purchasing teams
  • Experience purchasing technical components, OEM parts, fabricated components, or industrial raw materials
  • Strong understanding of ERP systems such as Oracle or SAP
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, technical specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Excellent negotiation, supplier management, and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Heavy manufacturing, industrial equipment, energy, transformer, or precision manufacturing experience
  • CPSM, CSCP, or other Supply Chain certifications
  • Experience supporting facility startups or greenfield manufacturing operations
  • International supplier management experience
  • Knowledge of inventory planning, forecasting, and procurement KPIs
