Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Purchasing Manager - Expeditors reports to the Assistant Director of Purchasing and is responsible for all expediting, delivery tracking, shortage management, and Expeditor personnel activities. Major objectives include ensuring on-time delivery of materials, minimizing production disruptions, and maintaining accurate material status visibility.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership and direct supervision of Expeditors.
  • Oversee open purchase order follow-up activities.
  • Monitor supplier commitments and delivery performance.
  • Develop recovery plans for late or critical materials.
  • Develop expediting and standard work processes; drive implementation, standardization and improvements.
  • Provide training on program tools and databases to facilitate department goals
  • Coordinate with Planning, Warehouse, Receiving, Manufacturing, and Project teams.
  • Manage shortage reports, exception reports, and delivery escalations.
  • Drive supplier corrective actions related to delivery performance.
  • Monitor delivery KPIs and material availability metrics.
  • Ensure timely communication of material risks to stakeholders.
  • Support production schedule adherence through proactive expediting.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

JOB SKILLS:

  • Strong knowledge and experience with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Lean concepts and tools.
  • Excellent communication skills across all levels of the business.
  • PC proficiency including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to initiate action and drive accountability.
  • Commitment to high work standards, personal accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Strong understanding of supplier delivery management, shortage resolution, and production support.

EDUCATION & TRAINING:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Extensive relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5 years purchasing, expediting, supply chain, or materials management experience, with at least 2 years experience as an expeditor.
  • Experience in engineer-to-order or make-to-order manufacturing environments.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2 years leadership experience managing direct reports, preferably supply chain personnel.
  • Lean practitioner experience.
  • ISO-certified manufacturing experience.
  • APICS certification preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Position is at least 80% to 95% at a desk working with computer. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading. The incumbent will be subject to inside environmental conditions.
