Job description

Join the SB Specialty Metals Team!

SB Specialty Metals is seeking a detail-oriented Purchasing & Inventory Coordinator to join our team in Vandalia, Ohio.

This position plays an important role in supporting our Purchasing, Inventory, Sales, and Operations teams by ensuring materials are ordered, tracked, received, and available when needed. What You'll Do

Inventory Management

  • Monitor inventory levels across multiple company locations and initiate stock replenishment as needed.
  • Process inventory transfer orders to maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Review supplier documentation and distribute receiving documents to the appropriate locations.
  • Process inventory receiving transactions accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Monitor outside processing inventory conversions and complete required inventory transactions.
  • Assist with purchase order receiving and inventory conversions.
  • Support and monitor physical inventory counts.
  • Coordinate pickups for non-stock purchases and special-order materials.
  • Ensure inventory records and related transactions are accurate and complete.

Purchasing

  • Create, modify, and maintain purchase orders for stock materials.
  • Coordinate with the Sales team to obtain quotes and issue purchase orders for non-stock and special-order materials.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and update delivery dates, quantities, pricing, and locations as needed.
  • Communicate directly with vendors regarding order status, shipping information, and required documentation.
  • Monitor vendor performance and communicate delays or fulfillment issues to management.
  • Process material certifications and maintain accurate purchasing records.
  • Coordinate returns for rejected or non-conforming materials.
  • Ensure vendor credits and purchasing transactions are completed accurately and on time.

Logistics Support

  • Assist with coordinating freight and logistics for inbound purchased materials.
  • Communicate with vendors, carriers, and internal teams regarding pickup and delivery schedules.
  • Track inbound shipments and help resolve delays or delivery issues.
  • Maintain accurate freight and shipment documentation.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Build positive working relationships with internal departments and external vendors.
  • Prioritize multiple responsibilities while meeting deadlines.
  • Maintain organized records and documentation.
  • Follow all company safety policies and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
