This leadership role is responsible for overseeing all food service operations, ensuring the highest standards of nutrition, food quality, resident satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and staff performance.

Position Summary
The Food Service Director is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and supervising all aspects of the Dietary Department. This includes menu planning, food production, sanitation, budgeting, inventory management, regulatory compliance, and staff development while ensuring residents receive safe, nutritious, and appetizing meals that meet physician-prescribed dietary requirements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Direct the daily operations of the Dietary Services Department.
  • Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate cooks, dietary aides, and food service staff.
  • Ensure all meals are prepared and served according to physician orders, therapeutic diets, and resident preferences.
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, local, CMS, and Department of Health regulations.
  • Develop and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor food preparation, portion control, meal presentation, and service quality.
  • Manage departmental budgets, food costs, purchasing, inventory, and vendor relationships.
  • Ensure proper sanitation, infection control, food storage, and kitchen safety procedures are consistently followed.
  • Collaborate with the Registered Dietitian, Administrator, Nursing Department, and interdisciplinary team to meet residents' nutritional needs.
  • Conduct routine kitchen inspections and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Oversee staff orientation, training, performance evaluations, and continuing education.
  • Maintain accurate records related to food temperatures, sanitation, purchasing, inventory, and regulatory compliance.
  • Respond promptly to resident and family concerns regarding meal service.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Service Management, Nutrition, Hospitality Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) certification REQUIRED
  • Minimum of 2-5 years in healthcarein food service management, preferably in a skilled nursing facility, rehabilitation center, hospital, or long-term care setting.
  • Strong knowledge of therapeutic diets, food safety regulations, infection control, and CMS/Department of Health requirements.
  • Experience with budgeting, purchasing, inventory management, and staff supervision.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a diverse team in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and dietary management software is preferred.
