Purchasing Agent


Type: Direct Hire (full-time employee of our client)

Location: Martinez, CA — Onsite

Salary: $70,000 – $95,000 per year, DOE


About the Role

Innovation Consulting LLC is partnered with an electrical construction firm to recruit a Purchasing Agent for its Martinez, CA operations. This role manages the procurement of electrical materials, tools, and equipment for commercial and industrial construction projects, working from project specifications and submittals to keep materials moving to active jobsites.

The Purchasing Agent evaluates suppliers on cost, availability, and delivery performance, tracks orders from issue through delivery, and resolves shipment and invoice discrepancies as they come up. The role coordinates closely with project managers, field teams, and estimating to keep material timelines aligned with project schedules, and supports compliance with company purchasing policy and applicable Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) requirements on healthcare-related work.

The ideal candidate has hands-on purchasing experience in the electrical contracting or broader construction industry, a solid understanding of vendor relations and inventory control, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent project timelines. The selected candidate will be hired as a full-time employee directly with our client.


Key Responsibilities

Procurement and Sourcing

•     Source and purchase electrical materials, tools, and equipment against project specifications and submittals.

•     Evaluate suppliers for cost, availability, and delivery performance.

•     Partner with project teams to request vendor quotes and review them for accuracy.

•     Maintain accurate records of purchases, deliveries, and invoices.

Order Tracking and Vendor Management

•     Track orders from date of issue through delivery to confirm jobsite readiness.

•     Resolve discrepancies in shipments and invoices.

•     Collaborate with project managers and field teams to ensure timely material deliveries.

Compliance and Documentation

•     Ensure purchasing activity complies with company policy and applicable OSHPD requirements on healthcare-related projects.

•     Collaborate with project teams and estimating to provide submittal documentation supporting purchasing decisions.


Qualifications

Required

•     One to three years of purchasing experience in the electrical or construction industry.

•     Proficiency with procurement or invoicing software and Microsoft Excel.

•     Ability to read and apply project specifications and submittals to purchasing decisions.

•     Strong vendor relations, inventory control, and multi-project coordination skills.

Preferred

•     Familiarity with OSHPD compliance requirements on healthcare-related construction projects.

•     Business writing and reporting skills.

•     Working knowledge of electrical materials and construction workflows.


Compensation & Employment

Employment Type: Direct hire. The selected candidate will be hired as a full-time employee directly with our client, the employer of record.

Salary: $70,000 – $95,000 per year, DOE
