Brief Job Description:
The Senior Materials Manager is responsible for leading all Materials Management functions across the Pelzer Integrated Solutions Campus, supporting multiple manufacturing facilities. This position provides strategic and operational leadership for Manufacturing Planning, Material Control, Purchasing, Supplier Performance, Inventory Management, Production Planning, and ERP Materials Governance to ensure customer demand is achieved safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
The role is accountable for developing a high-performing materials organization that delivers material availability, inventory accuracy, planning excellence, supplier execution, and operational stability while supporting a fast-paced, multi-plant manufacturing environment. The Senior Materials Manager partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Program Management, Logistics, Warehouse Operations, Finance, Quality, and Global Supply Chain to drive execution and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities Materials Leadership
  • Lead all Materials Management activities across multiple manufacturing plants within the Pelzer campus.
  • Develop and execute the overall materials strategy to support customer delivery, operational performance, and financial objectives.
  • Build, mentor, and develop high-performing teams consisting of Planning, Purchasing, Buyers, Expeditors, MOR Buyers, and Materials Manager / Supervisors.
  • Establish clear ownership, accountability, and standardized work practices across all Materials functions.

Manufacturing Planning & Material Control
  • Ensure material availability supports production schedules while maintaining optimal inventory levels.
  • Drive effective Sales Order, MRP, and Production Planning execution utilizing Oracle ERP.
  • Lead daily shortage reviews and establish recovery plans for critical material constraints.
  • Manage planning parameters including lead times, safety stock, minimum order quantities, and supplier planning settings.
  • Support revenue attainment through effective planning and execution of customer demand.

Procurement & Supplier Performance
  • Partner with Procurement and Global Sourcing to improve supplier delivery performance.
  • Review supplier commitments, open purchase orders, and material shortages daily.
  • Lead supplier escalation activities for critical shortages and delivery risks.
  • Develop supplier performance metrics and support supplier continuous improvement initiatives.

ERP & Process Governance
  • Drive full utilization of Oracle ERP planning and procurement functionality.
  • Eliminate manual planning activities where system functionality exists.
  • Ensure accurate master data including BOMs, Routings, Lead Times, Approved Supplier Lists, and Planning Parameters.
  • Support MRP governance and continuous system improvements.
  • Ensure transactional compliance supporting inventory accuracy and financial reporting.

Inventory Management
  • Monitor inventory health, excess inventory, obsolete material, and inventory turns.
  • Support annual Physical Inventory planning and execution.
  • Develop strategies to optimize working capital while maintaining customer service levels.

Cross Functional Leadership
  • Partner with Warehouse Operations to improve material flow from receiving through production and shipping.
  • Support Operations during daily execution meetings, production reviews, and recovery planning.
  • Work closely with Engineering on BOM releases, Engineering Change Orders, and new product introductions.
  • Collaborate with Program Management to support customer commitments and project milestones.
  • Partner with Finance regarding inventory valuation, revenue recognition, and material forecasting.

Continuous Improvement
  • Standardize Materials processes across all Pelzer manufacturing facilities.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, process simplification, and operational excellence.
  • Utilize KPIs to drive performance improvements across planning, procurement, inventory, and supplier performance.
  • Lead Lean initiatives within Materials Management.

Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations Management, Engineering, or related discipline preferred.
  • APICS/ASCM, CPM, CPSM, or Lean Certification preferred.

Experience
  • 5 + years of progressive experience in Materials Management, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Planning, or Procurement.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing multiple functional teams.
  • Experience supporting multi-site manufacturing operations.
  • Strong ERP experience, preferably Oracle EBS or Oracle Cloud.
  • Experience implementing MRP-driven planning environments.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing operations, inventory control, purchasing, supplier management, and production planning.
