What you will do
The Buyer intern role within Trucks Technology & Industrial Division provides students the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment. The purchasing department is responsible for continuously improving the supplier base to meet the needs of our customers. In this role you are expected to support purchasing professionals with Requests for Quotations (RFQ's), negotiations, managing projects, and analyzing data.
This internship will be based onsite at our Greensboro, NC location, and will run from August 17th - December 11th, 2026. Interns may be eligible for a monthly housing stipend under certain circumstances.
What You Will Be Doing:
  • Support in evaluating the performance of our current supply base
  • Help to minimize disturbances in our supply chain by steering improvements
  • Assist in securing that suppliers are delivering according to Volvo's specifications
  • Serve as an interface between our operation plants and suppliers during running production
  • Manage activities related to supplier relationships (meetings, documents, feedback, etc.)
  • Support Buyers in their day-to-day activities such as issuing RFQ's, running reports, creating dashboards, etc.
  • Participate in supplier and internal team meetings
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in order to obtain the best possible results for Volvo in terms of cost, quality, delivery, and features

Requirements:
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field. Your degree must be at an accredited school, and you need to have completed 30 semester hours prior to the start of the internship.
  • Must be either a Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student at the start of your internship
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher
  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status
  • Fall Interns may work up to 30 hours per week and must be enrolled as a student

  • Developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word)
  • Experience with Power Bi and Power Automate is a plus
