Job Title: Skilled Pumpkin Carver (Seasonal)

Location: Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium
Event: Jack O’ Lantern Extravaganza
Pay Rate: $22/hour
Schedule: Minimum 16 hours/week | Mid-September 2025 – October 31, 2025

Position Overview:

The Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium is seeking experienced and detail-driven Skilled Pumpkin Carvers to bring to life the intricate, photo-realistic illustrations created by our team of artists for the Jack O’ Lantern Extravaganza. This seasonal role is perfect for artists with a strong background in sculptural carving, realism, and working with organic materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carve live pumpkins with photo-realistic precision based on pre-drawn illustrations
  • Use a variety of carving tools to achieve depth, contrast, and fine detail
  • Collaborate with illustrators and creative leads to ensure artistic vision is maintained
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment while handling sharp tools and organic materials
  • Work on-site at the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium during scheduled hours

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in realistic carving, preferably in organic or sculptural media
  • Strong understanding of depth, shading, and texture through carving techniques
  • Ability to follow detailed illustrations with high accuracy
  • Comfortable working with live pumpkins and carving tools
  • Must be available to work at least 16 hours per week from mid-September through October 31, 2025
