Laron Mechanical Repair Shop Manager

Ready to lead a skilled team that keeps critical equipment—and our customers—moving? At OTC, being a Mechanical Repair Shop Manager means taking ownership of safety, quality, productivity, and profitability in a fast-paced industrial repair environment. We're looking for a hands-on leader who can develop employees, strengthen shop operations, and ensure mining and industrial equipment is repaired safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the daily operations of the mechanical repair shop, including repair, rebuilding, fabrication, machining, welding, and maintenance activities.
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and develop shop supervisors, technicians, mechanics, and support staff.
  • Manage production schedules, workflow, and priorities to maximize productivity and meet customer deadlines.
  • Ensure all repairs meet OEM specifications, customer requirements, and company quality standards.
  • Establish and improve shop procedures that increase efficiency, reduce downtime, and minimize rework.
  • Promote and enforce OSHA, MSHA, and company safety policies, including PPE requirements, safety meetings, inspections, and corrective actions.
  • Serve as a primary customer contact for repair scopes, estimates, schedules, project updates, and issue resolution.
  • Develop and manage shop budgets while monitoring labor efficiency, material costs, gross margins, and overall profitability.
  • Track and improve key performance indicators, including safety, labor utilization, productivity, turnaround time, on-time delivery, rework, customer satisfaction, and employee retention.
  • Oversee inventory, purchasing, and cost controls for parts, consumables, tools, and shop supplies.
  • Ensure cranes, machine tools, shop equipment, and service vehicles are properly maintained and available for use.
  • Conduct or oversee final inspections before repaired equipment is released to the customer.
  • Hire employees, conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and foster a team-oriented culture of safety, quality, and accountability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • 7–10+ years of experience repairing industrial, heavy, or mining equipment.
  • 3–5+ years of supervisory or management experience, preferably within a repair shop environment.
  • Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant industry experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical repair, welding, machining, fabrication, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Experience with equipment such as crushers, conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, and heavy mobile equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead skilled teams, manage competing priorities, and drive operational performance.
  • Experience with budgeting, estimating, cost control, labor management, and shop profitability.
  • Strong customer service, communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, repair specifications, and work scopes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance, ERP, or work-order management systems.
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry and MSHA Part 46 or Part 48 certifications preferred.
  • Ability to work safely in an industrial shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, heat, and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to frequently walk, stand, bend, and climb and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
