Job description

Vinton Veterinary Hospital is seeking to hire an Urgent Care Veterinarian to join our GP practice in Vinton, Virginia.


Positive culture with a growth and forward-thinking mindset.  Nestled beautifully within the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, Vinton Veterinary Hospital has been offering the highest quality medical care for our patients and excellent customer service to our clients and their pets since 1973.

  • Part-time and Relief candidates welcome to apply -- Experienced Veterinarians only.  
  • Shifts currently run on Sundays 9:00 am-3:00pm, with the possibility to add Saturday hours in the future.  Appointments include sick visits and urgent care, with the option to perform sedated procedures or surgeries/surgeries based on the doctor's preference/comfort.

ABOUT THE HOSPITAL:

  • Two-building, campus-style practice with a Wellness Center and a Specialty Services Center.  The Wellness Center is comprised of 7 exam rooms, a treatment area, an isolation area, three kennel wards plus runs, separate feline-friendly boarding, separate dog and cat waiting areas, and a large comfortable employee lounge.  The Specialty Services Center is comprised of a state-of-the-art surgery suite and a well-appointed dental suite in addition to its 3 exam rooms and 2 comfort-style exam rooms.
  • Complete in-house laboratory capabilities, including a Catalyst One, Catalyst Dx, Procyte Dx, Seivue Dx, and Coag Dx Aalyzer.  Long-term relationship with external full-service clinical and pathological laboratories. 
  • In-house ECGs, Fujinon Eve Processor Endoscope, TruDr digital X-Ray system, isoflurane anesthesia, advanced dentistry with a fully equipped dental suite including dental x-ray, excellent surgical monitoring capabilities including pulse oximetry and multiparameter monitors, orthopedic and laser surgery, Core Imaging SIUI 8800 ultrasound machine, complete in-house pharmacy, Avimark PIMS.
  • Wellness plans assist clients with compliance and financial investment in the wellness of pets.  DVMs are supported by well-trained, seasoned staff with multiple LVTs and several LVT students who participate in a well-developed LVT training program.  A close group of seasoned veterinarians who actively participate in mentoring new graduates and in orienting new hires.
  • Team of Board Certified Specialists in Ultrasound, Internal Medicine, Clinical Pathology and Ophthalmology support DVM staff in the diagnostics and treatment of clients' pets.

  • Residents and visitors of this area enjoy hiking, cycling, fishing, water sports, winter sports, scenic drives, birding and wildlife viewing, motorcycling touring, and geocaching.  The outdoor type can enjoy one of twenty-five hiking trails in close proximity and other amazing hikes just a short drive away. 
  • Roanoke is in very close proximity to Smith Mountain and Claytor Lakes.  The Blue Ridge Parkway is steps away from downtown Roanoke. 
  • We also enjoy a lively arts community with a plethora of museums, including Center in the Square and the Taubmann Museum of Art, and other historic museums such as the O. Winston Link Museum and the Virginia Museum of Transportation. 
  • Residents enjoy the performing arts with the Mill Mountain Theatre and Roanoke Children's Theatre as well as local music venues such as the Jefferson Center, Spot on Kirk, Five Points Music Sanctuary and larger indoor venues at the Roanoke Civic Center and Performing Arts Center and nearby Salem Civic Center.  Outdoor venues include the Amphitheater at Elmwood Park and Dr. Pepper Park.  The area also boasts a lively brewery community, which hosts musical acts as well.
