Summary/Objective:
Patient care team member who provides quality casting, splinting, DME fitting to patients, as well as supporting the physician in diagnosis and treatment. These individuals are working to ensure that service to the patient comes first.
Essential Functions:
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Perform castings, cast reapplication, and splint application under the direction and by order of the Physician.
  • Performs cast reapplication with Provider's orders.
  • Performs proper DME fitting.
  • Provides instructions to patients and family members according to approved protocol and/or the plan of care under the direction of the provider.
  • Prepares patients for routine examinations and procedures and sets up rooms.
  • Performs simple, non-sterile dressing changes.
  • Performs order entry of labs, x-rays, etc.
  • Provide written instructions to patients regarding proper cast care and use of crutches and devices.
  • Remove sutures or staples from superficial incisions after sutures/staples have been assessed for removal by a provider.
  • Assist patients in ambulation and transfers.
  • Collect and record patient data including height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration rate and blood pressure and basic information about the presenting and previous condition(s).
  • Cleans rooms and instruments according to OSHA and TJC standards.
  • Recognizes and provides for cultural and language differences of the patient/family.
  • Assists with the retrieval and checking of prior films.
  • Monitors and maintains all orthopedic equipment and supplies.
  • Performs other technical or administrative tasks as required.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • BCLS certification.
  • NBCOT certification or certification eligible.
  • Will consider offering onsite training for RTR candidates, NBCOT certification required within 2 years of employment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, works independently, works as a team member.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three (3) + years of experience as an Orthopedic Tech is preferred.
  • Experience with EPIC is preferred.
