Purpose Statement
Join Puget Sound Educational Service District as our next Manager, Information Systems and help power the technology systems that support educational communities across the region. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing technology operations, infrastructure, security, and support services that enable staff to effectively serve school districts, students, families, and communities. The ideal candidate is a collaborative problem solver who combines strong technical expertise with a commitment to customer service, team development, and continuous improvement to ensure reliable, secure, and innovative technology solutions across the agency.
Puget Sound Educational Service District (Puget Sound ESD) is one of nine regional educational agencies serving school districts and state approved charter and private schools in Washington. The job of Manager, Information Systems is done for the purpose/s of planning, supervising, and evaluating the technology capabilities of Puget Sound ESD; leading technical support staff to meet the Agency's overall technology needs, and overseeing security, recovery, and upgrading activities.
This job reports to Director, Agency Technology.
Essential Functions
  • Compiles data from a wide variety of sources for the purpose of verifying accuracy and integrity of data, creating standard and customized reports, and providing meaningful analysis of data.
  • Configures and troubleshoots server-based applications, including software distribution and imaging environment software, for the purpose of managing and maintaining the software environment and functionality.
  • Configures, maintains, and troubleshoots physical and virtual servers and server environments for the purpose of ensuring reliable network services.
  • Directs the repair and maintenance of computer equipment, network software and hardware for the purpose of upgrading and maintaining equipment and software.
  • Embodies the principles and practices that form our culture and commitment to becoming an Antiracist Multicultural Organization for the purpose of meeting the Agency's End: Success for Each Child and Eliminating the Opportunity Gap by Leading with Racial Equity.
  • Implements complex local area and wide area network solutions for the purpose of ensuring adequate systems for Puget Sound ESD to achieve established objectives.
  • Manages activities relating to data security, recovery, and systems upgrades for the purpose of ensuring the integrity of Puget Sound ESD systems.
  • Oversees systems and servers related to LAN, WAN, and Voice (e.g. user accounts, email system, VoIP telephone system, print queues, file shares, backup systems, Internet services, local and remote site computers, remote site connectivity, firewalls, routers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of services to authorized users.
  • Participates in a wide variety of meetings as required for the purpose of conveying and gathering information regarding a wide variety of subjects required to carry out administrative responsibilities.
  • Researches information on new technologies for the purpose of improving existing network functions and capabilities.
  • Researches, evaluates, and applies expert-level technical knowledge toward selection of computer hardware and software applications, vendors, consultants, and current technology trends for the purpose of guiding purchases and enhancing administrative, network, or user capabilities.
  • Responds to inquiries from Puget Sound ESD staff for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.
  • Serves as a technical resource to staff for the purpose of evaluating alternative solutions and recommending actions.
  • Supervises personnel (e.g., provide coaching and consultation on technical issues, adaptive challenges, personnel matters, strategic opportunities, career goals, professional development, job performance, etc.) for the purpose of advancing the development of effective leaders and high performing teams and achieving agency and departmental objectives.
Other Functions
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Network Administration, or a closely related field.
    • A high school diploma or GED combined with progressively responsible, directly related experience may substitute for an Associate degree.
  • Progressively responsible experience supporting and administering enterprise technology environments, including infrastructure, systems, networks, applications, and end-user services.
  • Experience leading, supervising, or coordinating the work of staff, teams, projects, or technology initiatives.
  • Experience supporting technology security, system reliability, backup and recovery, and operational continuity.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues, implement technology solutions, and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, and inclusion practices, including the ability to apply an equity lens to decision-making and service delivery.

  • Experience with Microsoft enterprise technologies, virtualization, cloud services, networking, and cybersecurity administration.
  • Experience leading technology projects, infrastructure upgrades, system migrations, or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, VMware, ITIL, CISSP, or similar credentials.
