Job description

General Position Summary The pay range for this position is $19.80 to $21.85 per hour, based on experience. Position ensures all custodial duties for cleaning and maintaining city offices and buildings are completed. Examples of Responsibilities Performs custodial work

Works to a schedule and completes special projects. Ensures offices and public areas are adequately cleaned each week to the standards expected of public buildings and offices. Washes windows and blinds.

Cleans and sanitizes rest rooms, disposes of trash and recyclables, replaces light tubes/bulbs, cleans all surfaces (furniture, fixtures, etc.), vacuums and shampoos carpeted floors, cleans, sweeps, mops, and waxes floors. Performs set-up of facilities for various meetings, including covering tables, moving furniture, cleaning and performing final inspection for presentation. Replaces rest room tissue and towels as needed

Transports supplies and materials. Double-checks facilities for cleanliness and any maintenance needs. Maintenance outside perimeter of buildings, including sweeping sidewalks, pick up debris, etc.

Moves file boxes and other office items for office personnel, as requested. Empty paper in shredder machine. Performs other related duties as required.

Job Conditions: Work around dirt, dust, germs, chemicals, cleaning supplies, and unsanitary conditions at times. Work schedule may be changed at any time to accommodate business needs. Minimal Qualifications High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Strong experience working in janitorial/custodian field performing similar tasks to job responsibilities is preferred. Strong work history of dependability and performance. Strong background record required, due to accessibility to employee and city property.

Alabama Driver's license and good driving record required for delivery of cleaning equipment and supplies. Supplemental Information Knowledge of material and methods used in cleaning processes. Verbal skills to communicate information and needs to other workers, employees and supervisor.

Skills to operate equipment such as shampooer, buffer, vacuum, etc. Ability to work independently without close supervision. Strong team and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of common safety practices. Ability to work at a fast pace to complete a high volume of work. Ability to stay on task and demonstrated initiative in making facilities as clean and professional as possible at all times while on the job.

Ability to follow instructions. Reading skills to understand and comprehend written and cleaning instructions of product labels and to include safety warnings and notices. Physical Capabilities: This position's physical requirements involve medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Ability to see well enough to drive vehicle, clean offices and read product and equipment information (corrective lens acceptable). Ability to move various equipment, files, furniture. Ability to bend, climb, stoop and stand for long periods of time in order to clean all surfaces.

Ability to work around specific chemicals required for cleaning. Must have full range of physical motion in order to operate various tools and equipment, and reach above head for cleaning blinds, etc. Ability to perform some repetitive motion for vacuum cleaners and other equipment.

Frequent standing or on feet 5 to 8 hours per day.
