With a record high backlog of boats to build, we are seeking a passionate, committed Environmental, Health and Safety leader to act as the Subject Matter Expert to identify, implement, and sustain efforts related to both ensuring company compliance but as importantly that the health and safety of our Team is our highest priority. This role oversees the day-to-day management of projects, efforts, and activities related to contributing to the health and safety of SAFE Boats 300+ Employee Owners.

You will work closely with Production (and other) leadership as a coach and partner to ensure everyone "owns safety" at SAFE Boats. You will ensure the Company is adhering to all Environmental regulations and fulfilling the Core Value of Stewardship as it relates to the environment in exceeding federal, OSHA, state and local, and other laws and requirements.

• Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace. Survey to identify and evaluate occupational health, safety and environmental conditions. Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices. Provide advice and counsel concerning all city, state, and federal compliance regulations and right-to-know programs.
• Implements controls for identifying hazards. Coordinate the implementation of controls from results of hazard analysis. Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate workplace accidents and injuries.
• Manage Workers Compensation programs: for the benefit of injured team members and financial controls of premiums. Manage the worker comp retroactive program.
• Works closely with Team Members to mitigate physical concerns related to personal injuries that could impair work performance or be aggravated by work activities- suggesting stretches, coaching on ergonomics, to potentially scheduling tele health meetings.
• Direct or assist in the development of specialized education and training materials. Conduct specialized safety and environmental training programs to communicate hazard control information.
• Conducts pre-employment drug testing for applicants.
• Creates, updates, and facilitates New Hire Orientation for new team members, educating on occupational health, safety and environmental standards and expectations.
• Identifies topics, agenda, and conducts / Co-leads Safety Committee meetings.
• Identifies topics, agenda, and conducts monthly meetings for department Leads/Leadership.
• Compile, analyze, and interpret accident, loss, and exposure statistical data; prepare comprehensive recommendations for corrective action to eliminate or minimize potential hazards. Review injury and property damage reports.
• Responsible for the overall administration of workers’ compensation programs, Private insurance and State-run programs.
• Lead the EHS facility including goal setting, prioritizing facility safety and compliance needs (budgeting) and establish and maintain tracking and performance systems.
• Leads and coordinates the team of First Responders at SAFE Boats- schedules regular trainings, ensures availability of responders to support the team, identifies quantity of first responders to ensure coverage for the Team.
• Escalates concerns related to Environmental, Health and Safety subjects to Senior Leadership for awareness, planning, budgeting, and mitigation.
• Acts as point of contact/SAFE Boats representative for Labor and Industries and other agencies related to external investigations.
• Interact and engage with Team Members and encourage them to be active participants at a high level in SAFE Boats positive Safety culture.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to supervisors and managers, helping to prioritize the most impactful tasks that will reduce risks and improve the quality of the environmental health and safety system.
• Direct environmental compliance programs related to hazardous waste, air permitting, water pollution control, Storm water compliance and discharge monitoring reports (DMR's).
• Understands Shipyard Competent Person work requirements, Hot Work, Gas Free and Confined space entry. Ensure standards and communicated and adhered to, including the availability of authorized Team Members to meet the needs of the business.
• Oversees and ensures that safety-related training and credentials are in place to meet the needs of the business and compliance.
• Identifies subjects for weekly company Toolbox Talks, oversees the creation of the information and tracks acknowledgement(s).
• Advises on both the overall safety and physical site security of facilities.
• Encourages, gathers, captures, reports out on, and conducts action-items related to Near Misses to prevent future incidents.
• Incorporate essential occupational health, safety, and environmental requirements in purchasing and control actions. Recommend the purchase of safety equipment and supplies.
• Leads, Manages, and coaches a small team (1- 2 individuals) of Environmental, Health and Safety Technicians/Specialists. Recruits, on boards, trains new members to the team and performance manages existing ones.
• Maintains a high level of confidentiality and professionalism at all times, with internal and external customers.
• Perform other related duties as directed that correspond to the overall function of this position.

• Able to make complex decisions
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written (presentations/report writing).
• Ability to lead and direct teams and/or committees.
• Ability to work in a flexible manufacturing environment. Experience in Lean manufacturing techniques.
• Strong PC skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint MS Forms, TEAMS and Power B.I).
• Skilled in the standards, concepts, practices, and procedures within the health, safety and environmental fields.
• Ability to analyze data and make recommendations/decisions.
• Ability to work at all levels within and organization.
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills/high EQ (Emotional Intelligence Quotient)
• Public Speaking will be required to address large gatherings and trainings.

• Requires a BA/BS degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental Sciences, or in a related field. Must have a minimum of 5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have knowledge or training in the following: occupational health, safety and environmental compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and standards.
• Demonstrated experience of successfully delivering hands on health, safety and environmental training. Ability to develop, implement, and coordinate comprehensive health and safety accident prevention programs and environmental regulations.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience managing workers compensation systems, policies, and cases including the capability to manage return to work, retroactive programs and Loss Prevention plans.
• Demonstrated ability in strategic planning for EHS improvements up to one to five years in the future as well as tactical abilities for day-to-day operations.
• Experience using software systems to analyze and communicate information, create reports, presentations, etc.
• Experience successfully leading small teams.

• This position will require travel (local) between two facilities (Tacoma & Bremerton, WA)
• Position requires use of computer, telephones, and other office equipment, reading, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, and hearing ability and visual acuity
• Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time (up to 10 hours)
• Position may require bending, twisting, leaning, climbing and other activities related to working on or with boats in production
• Ability to move and/or lift 40 lbs.
• Ability to get underway with high-speed watercraft in variable weather conditions
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable
