Job description

Museum Docent / Visitor Experience Associate

Location: Plano, TX
Schedule: Part-Time, Approximately 18 to 22 hours per week
Duration: Contract
 
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an enthusiastic and personable Part-Time Museum Docent / Visitor Experience Associate to support a corporate museum and visitor experience center. This individual will play an important role in creating a welcoming, informative, and engaging experience for guests, including employees, community members, business partners, and VIP visitors.

Responsibilities
  • Welcome visitors and provide an exceptional guest experience.
  • Conduct guided tours for individuals, VIP guests, and organized groups.
  • Share engaging information about the organization's history, innovation, and future.
  • Answer visitor questions and provide assistance throughout the facility.
  • Support museum operations by helping maintain exhibit areas and ensuring displays are presentation ready.
  • Perform opening and closing responsibilities, including activating and shutting down exhibits.
  • Assist staff with general operational tasks as needed.
  • Support occasional special events, including evening or weekend programs.

  • Support occasional special events, including evening or weekend programs.
 
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable speaking to both small and large groups.
  • Friendly, outgoing, and customer service oriented.
  • Professional appearance and positive attitude.
  • Flexible and adaptable in a dynamic environment.
  • Able to follow established procedures and directions.
  • Comfortable standing and walking for extended periods throughout a large facility.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in hospitality, museums, visitor services, customer service, tourism, education, or public engagement.
  • Passion for automobiles or automotive history.
  • Ability to speak Spanish, Japanese, or American Sign Language is a plus.
 
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk and stand for most of the workday.
  • Comfortable working throughout a large exhibit space.
  • Able to assist during occasional special events that may extend beyond regular scheduled hours.
 
Schedule
Typical weekly schedule includes:
  • Tuesday, 10:00 AM to approximately 4:30 or 5:00 PM
  • Wednesday, 10:00 AM to approximately 4:30 or 5:00 PM
  • Thursday, 10:00 AM to approximately 4:30 or 5:00 PM
  • Every other Monday, 2:00 PM to approximately 4:30 PM
  • Occasional evenings and weekends for special events, as needed
