Job Responsibilities The South Carolina State Museum is looking for a Community Engagement Assistant to provide support for event planning and implementation, setup, vendor coordination, and administrative tasks. The Community Engagement Assistant will report to the Head of Community Engagement and support the museum's goal of offering innovative and creative public programming that supports the Museum's Reimagine the Experience initiative and highlights our institution's role as a educational and cultural leader in South Carolina. The position requires frequent after-hours and weekend work in coordination with event support but offers the opportunity to work a flexible schedule during business hours throughout the week.
Key Responsibilities May Include: Community Engagement support: Support and document community engagement efforts, including outreach, listening sessions, etc. Support grant-writing efforts Help coordinate staff participation in community engagement efforts Support community engagement internships Public program planning support: Work with public programs coordinator to communicate with program vendors and partners Support the coordination planning and staffing across departments Work with public programs coordinator to acquire and organize supplies Public program implementation support: Lead some public programs Coordinate volunteer support Support event setup and breakdown Support event troubleshooting Provide support as handler for partners and VIPs All other duties as assigned Minimum and Additional Requirements A high school diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite in a business setting Experience with customer service Excellent oral and written communication skills Must have reliable transportation Must be able to access work areas; skilled at using a computer keyboard, calculator, and copy machine; able to lift file boxes weighing up to 35 pounds; climb stairs, and push carts; good verbal/written communication skills; able to work well with a diverse staff. Some after-hours, weekend, and/or holiday work hours required Preferred Qualifications Experience with event planning and implementation Experience coordinating with event vendors including scheduling and fielding invoices Flexibility and adaptability, including a willingness to take positive action in a changing environment and to effectively analyze situations and problem solve.
Demonstrated ability to work under deadlines and both work with a high degree of autonomy and participate effectively on a team. Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills, with strong attention to detail and follow-through. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong organizational, research, and communication skills.
Ability to work with nights and weekends. Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with a variety of stakeholders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other administrative tools is a plus.
Must pass a background check in accordance with state policies. Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
