SUMMARY
The Department of Public Health & Health Education at SUNY Brockport is seeking a full-time Instructor. This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative and student-centered academic community dedicated to preparing the next generation of school health educators. The successful candidate will teach online graduate-level courses, engage in service activities, and maintain an active program of scholarly engagement. This is a 10-month academic position, eligible for continuing appointment, with an anticipated start date of August 2027.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions:
Teaching (70%)
  • Teaches a 4/4 course load. For these purposes, a course refers to a 3-credit course or equivalent.
  • Creates effective course materials, as provided in Teaching Portfolio, and demonstrates successful student learning outcomes.
  • Uses student instructional assessment survey (IAS) results to inform continuous improvement.
Scholarship (5-10%)
  • Engages in scholarly activities to produce scholarly publications, presentations, and related scholarly work.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current in the field.
Service (20-25%)
  • Actively participates in department level meetings and serves on at least one additional department committee per academic year. Faculty at this level are also expected to serve on college level committees.
  • Provides service to the department, university, community, and profession.
  • Participates in Information Sessions, advisement, and registration.
  • Attends University events.

REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in health education or related discipline by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
  • Ability to teach school health education courses
  • Demonstrated potential for increasing the diversity of the curriculum, student body or faculty through teaching/mentoring or scholarly activities

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Teacher Certification in Health Education
  • Familiarity with SHAPE, CAEP & NYSED standards
  • College and/or school health experience
  • Experience with online teaching

Retirement
  • NYS Employees' Retirement System (ERS) and NYS Teachers' Retirement System (TRS) - Defined benefit plans; benefits are based on best Final Average Salary and years of service.
  • SUNY Optional Retirement Plan (ORP) - Defined contribution plan; benefits are based on the employer and employee contributions and the success of the investments. Employer contribution is 8% of salary for first seven years of service, 10% thereafter.
Membership for full-time and permanent employees is mandatory. All full-time employees are eligible to elect ERS or the ORP; employees in teaching, librarian, or coach (including assistant) titles are also eligible for TRS and may choose any of the three plans.
